Did you know that icebox cakes came about in the 1920s? They're a simple layered dessert often made by layering cookies, sweet crackers, or sponge cake between pudding, custard, or whipped cream and then stored in the ice box to stiffen until they're ready to serve. Even after refrigerators became popular, icebox cakes were a staple in many households and are still made today. Come try an icebox cake made with layers of graham crackers, vanilla and chocolate pudding and cool whip tomorrow, August 30th from 2-4:30 at the Red River Community House, participate in our silent auction, listen to a talk about how transportation changed the valley by Fritz Davis and learn to swing dance. 1920s attire is welcomed. Did you know that sandwiches became extremely popular in the 1920s because the ingredients were cheap, they were quick to make, and easy to eat on the go? Perfect for road trips across America. Come taste some of the sandwiches that were popular back then such as cucumber and butter, cream cheese and olive, and deviled ham at our annual event on August 30th from 2-4:30 at the Red River Community House. Learn more about how transportation changed our valley, participate in our silent auction, and learn to swing dance. 1920s attire is optional.

Did you know Black Americans in Harlem, New York, created swing dance in the late 1920s and 1930s? It grew alongside jazz and big band music. It didn't take long for it to spread across the US. Roads like the Mother Road (Route 66) helped this spread. Swing dance, along with other dances such as the Charleston, was common in "Speakeasys" that were born as a result of Prohibition. Our own Playhouse was a type of speakeasy back then. It was a dance hall where, yes, they did serve alcohol in secret. Come learn how to swing dance with us after Fritz's talk about how transportation changed our valley on August 30th at the Red River Community House from 2-4:30
