I will be interviewing a few of our volunteers and today I want to start with our team leader of the 4:19 Food Pantry Christie Peacock. I asked Christie when did she start volunteering for the pantry and what does it mean to serve the community for her. Enjoy!
I started serving at the 419 Food Pantry in 2017. At that time, I showed up on Saturdays to serve alongside my Sunday school class. Back then, we served around 35–45 patrons each week, and my desire was simply to be involved in the community and help where I could.
Very quickly, I fell in love with this ministry — not only because of the opportunity to serve our community, but because of the incredible volunteers who shared the same love for Jesus that I do. It became much more than handing out food; it became a place where people could experience kindness, encouragement, prayer, and hope.
When COVID hit, we all knew the need in our community was growing rapidly. Together, we worked tirelessly to make sure we had the resources necessary to help those in need. Through partnerships with First Red Oak, Crossroads Distribution, and our dedicated volunteers, we continued to serve faithfully during such a difficult season.
My love for this ministry continues to grow stronger as I see the lives we touch each week. We are not only meeting physical needs, but also loving on people, praying over them, and being a light in a dark world. It is a blessing to serve alongside people who are passionate about sharing the love of Christ through action, compassion, and community.
