Tuesday 10.13.2026: Enough Understanding to Move Forward

Devotional:

The Greek word "suniemi," translated as "understanding" in Ephesians 5:17, does not mean having complete, exhaustive knowledge of every detail. It means having just enough understanding to take the next faithful step. This is a liberating truth. God does not require that you have everything figured out before you move. He requires trust. Proverbs 3:5-6 echoes this beautifully, urging believers not to lean on their own complete understanding but to acknowledge God in every step, trusting him to make the path clear. Pastor Rohrig compared this to starting a long road trip: you don't know every traffic delay or storm ahead, but you know enough to start driving. Faith is not the absence of uncertainty. Faith is moving forward amid uncertainty because you trust the One who knows the road completely.

Reflection Questions:

Are you waiting for God to reveal every detail before you take a step of faith?

What does it practically mean to trust God with details you cannot yet see?

Practical Application: Identify one situation where you have been waiting for complete certainty. List what you do know and what you trust God to handle. Then take one concrete step forward based on what you already know, and release the rest to him in prayer.

Monday 10.12.2026 Walking Wisely, Not Fearfully

Devotional:

Paul calls believers to walk circumspectly -- carefully, deliberately, and with spiritual awareness. The Greek word "akribos" evokes someone who watches every direction to avoid danger while still moving forward. This is not the walk of someone paralyzed by fear, but of someone alert and purposeful. Fear of failure often disguises itself as caution, but godly discernment differs from spiritual paralysis. Wisdom moves forward. Fear stays frozen.

As Pastor Rohrig reminds us, we cannot bring our fear of failure along on Jesus' way of love. It leaves no room for it. Today, ask yourself what forward step you have been postponing because you are afraid of what might go wrong. Bring it honestly before God, and ask him for the courage to take one deliberate step in the right direction.

Reflection Questions:

-In what area of your life are you walking cautiously out of fear rather than wisdom?

-What would it look like to move forward in faith today, even without knowing every detail?

Practical Application: Write down one decision or step you have been delaying. Spend five minutes in prayer asking God for the wisdom described in Proverbs 1:7 -- a reverent, God-honoring perspective that produces genuine movement rather than fearful stillness.

Sermon Recap -- Fail More | A Love That Surpasses Knowledge, Week 13

Dear Crossroads Community Church Family,

What a powerful time we had together this past Sunday as we continued our journey through the book of Ephesians. If you missed the service or simply want to revisit what God spoke to us, here is a recap of the message.

Summary: The sermon explored the call to release our fear of failure as we follow Jesus on his way of love. Drawing from Ephesians 5:15-20, Pastor Ricky challenged us to walk wisely, make the most of every opportunity, and pay careful attention to the words we speak over one another.

The central truth of the message was grounded in 1 Corinthians 13:8, which affirms that love never fails. Because love never fails, and because God is love, we are freed from measuring our lives by success or failure.

Instead, we are called to measure our lives by self-giving love for others. This liberating truth means we can take more risks, serve more boldly, and step forward in faith even when we do not have every detail figured out.

Takeaways:

- Understand God's will enough to move forward, but do not be paralyzed waiting for every detail. The Greek word "suniemi" used in Ephesians 5:17 means having just enough understanding to take the next step in faith, trusting that God's loving care will never let us fall outside of his hands, even when we make mistakes.

- Make the most of every opportunity by seeing God as a loving Father rather than a demanding tyrant. God invites us to seize each day with purpose and joy. We do this by staying connected to him through prayer and Scripture, being fully present with those around us, accepting unexpected interruptions as divine appointments, and encouraging others to recognize the opportunities God has placed before them.

- Our words carry the power to speak life, love, and courage into those around us. Ephesians 5:19-20 reminds us to fill our conversations with gratitude and encouragement. Whether through songs, scripture, or Spirit-led words, we are called to build one another up on the way of love, especially within our own families.

As Pastor Ricky reminded us on Sunday morning, the question we should be asking ourselves at the end of each day is not "Did I succeed today?" but rather "Did I love others well today?" That is the standard of the way of Jesus, and it is a standard rooted entirely in grace.

This week, we encourage you to identify one area where fear of failure has held you back, bring it before God in prayer, seek wise counsel if needed, and then take one courageous step forward. Love never fails. God never fails. And God is love.
