If you drive down Houston School Road from the corner of Ovilla Road, only a few blocks down on the left side of the road, you’ll see we prominently placed a sign quoting Compass Data Centers that reads:

“If there’s a community that does not want us there. We will respect their wishes.”
-Compass Data Centers
“Built to Be Good Neighbors.”

It may be a PR message, but it also gives opponents of their data center development something important: their own words. If Compass truly means what it says, then residents who don’t want this massive data center development in our community need to tell them.

Write them a letter! Ask your neighbors to do the same. Be respectful, but be clear. Tell Compass why you oppose the project and ask them to honor their own public statement by withdrawing their proposed second campus development from Red Oak.

If enough residents make their voices heard, Compass can’t claim it didn’t know how this community feels. If they’re going to advertise that they respect communities that don’t want them there, we have every right to ask them to stand behind those words.

It doesn’t have to be fancy or eloquently written. Even something as simple as:
“As a member of the community, I don’t want you here. I oppose your second Red Oak campus.”

IT’S OFFICIAL. WE FILED THE LAWSUIT.

I can finally share that a lawsuit challenging the City of Red Oak’s approval of the approximately 830-acre data center development has been filed and accepted by the court.

For months, residents have attended meetings, submitted formal written protests, gathered more than 1,700 petition signatures and continued asking questions about what a development of this magnitude could mean for the people who already live here.

Our lawsuit asks the court to determine whether the City’s approval was lawful and whether it complied with the voting, notice and procedural requirements that protect residents during the zoning process.

This has never been about being against technology or economic development. It’s about whether residents are entitled to proper notice, transparency, meaningful public participation and a lawful process. When residents participate in the process and exercise the rights the law gives them, those rights have to mean something.

👀 Interesting timing — and an interesting Ellis County connection.

On August 27, NCTCOG released a report finding that data center growth in North Texas is outpacing local infrastructure and policy readiness.

That same day, it was announced that NCTCOG Executive Director Todd Little and the organization had mutually agreed to separate, effective immediately.

Who is Todd Little and why does it matter locally?

Todd Little was:
Mayor of Red Oak 2000-2006
Ellis County Judge 2019-2025
NCTCOG Executive Board 2022
And later became the Executive Director of NCTCOG in May of 2025.

‼️ Considering the explosion of data center development we’ve seen across Red Oak and Ellis County in recent years, his timeline through local, county and regional government is worth paying attention to.‼️

And the report released on the day of his departure has some pretty significant findings:

📣78% said existing infrastructure couldn’t support data centers without major upgrades.

💧 96% identified water supply as facing significant strain.

⚡ 81% identified the electric grid.

📋 72% said their city or county lacked clear policies or guidelines for evaluating data centers.

When asked whether the benefits of data centers outweigh the drawbacks:
✅ 4% said yes.
🤔 36% said it depends on the conditions and safeguards in place.
⛔️ 60% said NO

For clarity, we haven’t seen evidence connecting Todd Little’s departure to this report. The timing and his Red Oak/Ellis County history simply caught our attention.

But the report itself speaks pretty loudly:

Data center development is moving faster than many North Texas communities’ infrastructure, policies and safeguards are prepared to handle.

Hey Compass Datacenters,

During your testimony before the Texas Senate Business & Commerce Committee, you said:

“At Compass we take a partnership approach… We are a Class A community-first developer. IF THERE’S A COMMUNITY THAT DOES NOT WANT US THERE, WE WILL RESPECT THEIR WISHES. But in the communities where we do develop, we have a very good relationship with the communities, including… in Red Oak, Texas.”

Which community are you talking about?

Because it certainly isn’t the people of Red Oak.

We’ve packed meeting after meeting. We’ve held multiple peaceful protests. We’ve stood before our Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council. We’ve organized. We’ve gathered thousands of signatures. We’ve retained legal counsel. We’ve continued to speak out because we’ve made it crystal clear that we don’t want this project, we don’t want your development, we don’t want your data centers, and that WE DON’T WANT YOU HERE.

The Dallas Morning News, WFAA, NBC DFW, Noticias 23, and others have all reported on our opposition.

So when you told the Texas Senate that you have “a very good relationship with the communities, including… in Red Oak, Texas,” who exactly were you referring to?

Because if Compass truly respects the wishes of a community that doesn’t want you there, Red Oak has already made its position known.

It’s time to honor your word, pack up this project, and go where you’re actually wanted.
