For one neighbor, getting in and out of her home had become a source of worry as her mobility changed.

Servants volunteers installed an accessibility ramp, giving her a safer way to come and go.

Afterward, she shared that she hadn’t realized how much stress she had been carrying until the ramp helped lift it.

That’s why this work matters. The finished project is something you can see. The relief it brings can be just as meaningful.

A healthy home isn’t about having the newest kitchen or the nicest finishes.

It’s about being able to get through the doorway, move across the floor, and use the bathroom safely.

That’s the focus of Servants’ Healthy Homes work: practical modifications that address barriers to everyday living, from wheelchair ramps to flooring repairs and bathroom safety improvements.

Because the most important thing about a home is how well it supports the person living there.

As October begins, we’re thinking about what makes a house feel like home: comfort, connection, and the freedom to move through the day safely.

Through ramps, safer bathrooms, and critical flooring repairs, Servants volunteers help neighbors stay safe and independent in the homes they love.

Sometimes, helping a neighbor starts with simply seeing the need.

One of our neighbors recently returned home after spending more than five months in rehabilitation and skilled nursing care. She has significant difficulty walking, and her home is presenting some very real safety challenges.

Right now, her bathtub is difficult and unsafe for her to use, and the entrance to the home may also need modifications to make getting in and out safer.

These are the kinds of projects Servants steps into — and we need volunteers to help make them happen.

We are looking for people willing to serve on projects like shower conversions, grab bar installations, ramps, safer entrances, steps, handrails, and other home modifications that help our neighbors remain safe and independent.

You do not have to be a contractor to help. Some projects require skilled volunteers, but many simply need people who are willing to show up, learn, work alongside others, and serve.

There are neighbors in our community waiting for help right now.

Could you give a few hours to help make someone’s home safer?

Bring a friend. Bring your church group. Bring your coworkers.

Come help us serve our neighbors.

This Labor Day, we’re thinking about the many hands that make hope possible.

The volunteers who give their time.
The skilled tradespeople who share their talents.
The churches, businesses, and community partners who step forward when a neighbor needs help.
And the families we are honored to serve, who remind us every day why this work matters.

At Servants, we know that meaningful work is about more than what gets built or repaired.

It’s about a safer step into a home.
A bathroom someone can use with confidence.
A ramp that restores independence.
A neighbor who knows they have not been forgotten.

Today, we are grateful for everyone who uses their hands, their skills, and their heart to make our community stronger.

May this Labor Day be a reminder that when we work together, we can do more than repair homes.
