Powwow Season is Here!
As we gather to honor culture, tradition, and community, it's important to respect the space and spirit of the powwow. Whether you're a first-time guest or a returning relative, here are a few helpful do’s and don’ts to keep in mind:

Do:
• Listen to the Master of Ceremonies
• Respect the Dance Circle
• Ask permission before taking photos
• Support Indigenous artists and vendors
• Be open to learning

Don’t:
• Bring pets into the circle
• Bring alcohol, drugs, or fi****ms
• Record the opening prayer
• Cross the center of the dance circle
• Touch dancers’ regalia without permission

Let's celebrate with respect, pride, and good medicine.
See you on the powwow trail!

I heard something recently that really stuck with me, and I think more people need to hear it.

A friend told me about a powerful lesson from her daughter’s high school history class. They’re learning about the Salem Witch Trials, and the teacher decided to play a little “game” with them.

She went around the classroom and whispered to each student whether they were a "witch" or a "regular person." The rules were simple: form the biggest group possible without a witch. If your group had even one witch, you'd fail the assignment.

So what did the students do?

They interrogated each other. Judged each other. Formed tight little cliques. Shunned classmates over the tiniest suspicions. Some kids grouped up fast. Others were left out. Trust broke down completely.

Then came the twist.

“Okay,” the teacher said, “any witches in the room, raise your hand.”

Not a single hand went up.

Confused, the students said, “Wait—you messed up the game!”

The teacher responded:
“Did I? Were there any real witches in Salem? Or did everyone just believe what they were told?”

Silence.

That’s how you teach the true power of fear, judgment, and division. It doesn’t take much to fracture a community—just a whisper and some doubt.

Let’s be better than that. Let’s lead with empathy, not suspicion. Welcome more. Exclude less. Stay united and kind, especially when it feels easier to point fingers.

✌️❤️🙏

🥰Your child feels SAFE when surrounded by a strong family unit.

That's created by your positive and kind words.
The interactions, attention and time that you spend with them.
And the memories they form around childhood memories.

🫂Even brief moments spent together, whether you have 10 minutes or more, gives your child the undivided attention that matters to behavior and emotional wellbeing.

😡Filling your child’s Emotional and Connection cup is a daily need that every child has. When feeling disconnected they often start misbehaving as one way to express this need. Negative behavior could be a sign your child needs more attention and connection.

📌Here are the main ways to grow connection:
🔹 Play together
🔹 Go on adventures and dates
🔹 Show/tell your unconditional love
🔹Accomplish something together
🔹Do what brings them joy together

😓It just as important to be aware of what leaves your child feeling DISCONNECTED. There will always be ups and downs in life and children will survive them but how well they do so is based on their support system.

👎Things that make a child feel disconnected:
🔹 Overcriticism and being overly strict
🔹 Being rejected often (always busy or not paying attention)
🔹 Feeling lonely
🔹 Yelling + punishment, instead of teaching and guiding
🔹 Lack of family traditions/experiences

😊When your family feels connected you’ll find them to be mostly happy and content. You’ll find that kids are less anxious and less likely to be fighting as often. What your child needs most from you doesn’t cost any money. What they need most is your unconditional love, your time and to connect with you daily. That bond becomes the model they follow for their future family as well. ❤️

Last night, Trooper Knievel observed a vehicle traveling at approximately 101 mph on Interstate 90 amidst heavy rain and very wet road conditions. This kind of excessive speed significantly increases the risk of hydroplaning, a serious hazard during such weather.

The Dakota Plains have been experiencing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. These conditions have led to slick roads and reduced visibility, making driving more treacherous.

Safety Tips for Driving in Heavy Rain:

🌧️ Reduce your speed by 10–15 mph below the posted limit.

🌧️ Avoid sudden turns or lane changes to maintain control of your vehicle.

🌧️ Increase following distance to allow more time to react.

🌧️ Turn on headlights to improve visibility for yourself and others.

Remember, no destination is worth risking your life or the lives of others. Drive smart. Get home safe.
