Congratulations ODVGC on your Champion Blue Ribbon won at this year's Dutchess County Fair! A few members of our club plus some friends put together from scratch this wonderful exhibit now viewable in the Horticulture Building. The garden represents a Revolutionary era kitchen garden. Special thanks go to Cathy Michael who organized this project, and many thanks as well to all who participated!

As Fall approaches, ODVGC members will be ready! Cornell Cooperative Extension will present "Putting Your Garden To Bed" at our September 10 meeting. On October 8, Linda Lawson will lead members in an activity on painted pumpkins with the focus on decoupage. On November 12, Theresa Burke's presentation will be "Bird House Gourds."

ODVGC meetings are held at St. John's Reformed Church in Upper Red Hook the second Thursday of most months, 12:30 PM. Our meetings often include speakers who like us seek to advance home gardening, build civic pride in our community, and maintain our natural resources. We look forward to meeting you at our meetings!

ODVGC members enjoyed our annual picnic at Clermont Park on July 9, winning out over that week's heat wave. We sat in the shade enjoying our delicious food, with gentle breezes cooling us from the river. Carol Annas served again as our talented auctioneer of gardening items and plants- thank you Carol for serving as our main attraction! Also in July we discovered that our ODVGC member Linda DiGasper has created a natural habitat garden which was featured in the Dirty Gaia garden tour, and which is named a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.

Stay tuned to Facebook for postings about our club's events in the Fall!!

After ODVGC's very successful plant sale on May 16, we now look forward to coming events and some in the past as well. On June 11, please join us at our monthly meeting at 12:30 PM, St. John's Reformed Church in Red Hook, to hear a presentation by Thomas Johnson on Monarch Butterflies. For sure, very timely. We are also preparing a booth for the Horticultural exhibit at the Dutchess County Fair. Here are some photos from our Anniversary Luncheon at Charlie O's in Red Hook.

ODVGC started off the summer season with an impressive turnout at our plant sale May 16. We want to thank all the local gardeners who purchased our plants, and for the plant donations from their own gardens, helping to beautify our community and contribute to our club's activities. We sold over 1200 perennials, shrubs and even a few houseplants, and a lucky winner went home with some nice gardening items from the raffle. Here is a photo of buyers looking over the plants soon after the sale opened.
