ECE-8 Teacher Showcase. We had some time to reflect on another semester full of growth and challenges. Very thankful to have been paired with an incredible mentor teacher Farah Baker who has been there to guide and encourage until the very wee hours of the night. Big shoutout to my hubby for pulling long days and keeping our family on track.

At Charity’s Childcare, my mission is to honor God by providing a high-quality, safe, and nurturing environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive. Grounded in the wisdom of Proverbs 22:6—'Train up a child the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it'—I view early childhood education as a sacred opportunity to shape the hearts and minds of the next generation.

My primary focus is on developing essential life skills and fostering deep independence. I believe that children learn best when they are trusted, respected, and given the freedom to explore purposeful work. By cultivating their natural curiosity and self-reliance, I aim to build a sturdy foundation for their future academic journeys. My ultimate goal is to equip each child with the character, confidence, and practical capabilities they need to become successful students and impactful, responsible adults. To God be all the glory.

Stepping Back Doesn’t Mean Stepping Away...

One of the most powerful shifts adults can make—whether as parents, caregivers, or educators—is learning when to pause and allow space.

Stepping back is not about withdrawing support or becoming passive, but rather, it's about creating the conditions for a child’s autonomy to emerge. It means resisting the urge to intervene too quickly, solve too soon, or guide too tightly.

Too often, well-meaning adults step in when a child is struggling to put on their coat, climbing something "too high," or simply playing in a way that looks different than we expected. We interrupt their process which may include redirecting their play, offering shortcuts, or taking over altogether. But children don’t need constant instruction. They don’t need quick fixes.

We don’t need to “teach” as much as we think. Children learn far more from what we model than from what we explain. They need room to think, to try, to fail, and to try again. That is how they learn to learn-not just how to follow directions.

They need to experience manageable levels of frustration in order to build frustration tolerance, perseverance, emotional regulation, and problem-solving. Confidence isn’t built by avoiding challenge. It’s built by working through it, with the steady presence of someone who believes they can.

Stepping back doesn’t mean stepping away. Our presence still matters. But instead of directing, we observe. Instead of controlling, we trust. We remain close, emotionally attuned, and available, offering a secure base from which children can safely stretch into the world.

In doing so, we send a powerful message: I believe in you. You are capable. I am here, and I trust your process.
