Take a Sunday afternoon walk to explore the new trails in the Township's Holland Brook Headwaters Natural Area, The mowed pathways meander through and around open fields, some left fallow to host wildflowers, butterflies, bees and birds, and some wooded areas.

A couple of days ago I checked the deer exclosure in the woods across your field from my house and the fencing appeared in good shape.
Of interest was that I heard 2 OVENBIRDS singing, both inside the deer exclosure Ovenbirds are a bird that depends on woodland understory for breeding habitat, and this once common bird locally has been diminishing in numbers in recent years due to deer browsing of understory.
It is quite encouraging that I found two of them; maybe just passing through in migration, but they settled into this deer exclosure and hopefully will stay to breed.

A Wood Turtle was spotted by the hikers on a recent open space walk. The wood turtle is on the threatened species list in NJ, mostly because the habitat it requires, clean streams or rivers with access to undisturbed uplands, is itself becoming rare. New Jersey has recorded only about 600 wood turtle sightings.
