The Garden Club of Reading, Berks County, PA Since 1965, the Garden Club of Reading, PA has been a successful state and nationally federated garden club of the Berks County region.

The State (Garden Club Federation of PA) and Nationally (National Garden Clubs, Inc.) federated acclaimed club consists of 30+/- members all from the Berks County region that meet typically once a month at a selected establishment. Active in maintaining the Friendship Garden and the Garden of Remembrance at the Reading Public Museum. Also active with the Window Sill Garden Club at the Berks County

Senior Citizen Center in Reading. Activities: Hosts garden tours, active in the Wyomissing Earth Day, established events like federally approved standard flower shows, various services and programs throughout the year.

Berry bushes do better when the space around them is working too 🫐 A few companion planting ideas I’d try:
🐝 Borage and sweet alyssum can help bring more pollinators into the area.
🌿 Chives are easy to tuck around the edges and don’t take up much space.
🌼 Marigolds and nasturtiums add color while helping distract some pests.
🍓 Strawberries can work as a living ground cover if you keep them managed.
🌱 I’d still leave room around the berry bush base for airflow and harvesting.
My tip is to start with just a few companions instead of crowding the whole bed at once. Berry roots don’t love competition.

If a yard is too tidy, too dry, or too stripped back, it can become much harder for them to complete their life cycle. That is why the right Pennsylvania plants matter so much. Some do more than add beauty to a garden.
