What Does the Rebrand Mean to Us? — Ben Foster, Communications Staff Member🔴

For Ben, Threshold's rebrand is about more than a new look. It's a declaration of intent.

"The rebrand represents a renewed commitment to the clients we support. Threshold is going out of its way to make itself known and broadcast its services to a wider audience."

When an organization that has quietly served its community for 61 years decides to raise its voice, the people it serves are the reason why. That's what this rebrand means to Ben and to all of us at Threshold.
Stay tuned as we continue to share what this milestone means to the people behind it.

From Ford to forward progress! 🔴

Pictured is Threshold's HQ - circa 1976 - when it served as a Ford dealership for the Berks County community.

For 61 years, Threshold has been part of Berks County's story—empowering individuals and serving our community. What once sold cars now provides life-changing support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health needs.

Every week, we're sharing glimpses into our incredible 60-year history. What memories do you have of Berks County in the '70s?

Employee of the Month - August. 🔴

This month, we're celebrating Bernarde Mirville, Mental Health Aide at the Residential Treatment Facility for Adults. Bernarde demonstrates exceptional tenacity in ensuring residents never miss their appointments. Despite the demands of her job, she consistently advocates for residents' health and well-being. Her concern for them reflects a character-level commitment to Threshold's precepts of service. Thank you, Bernarde.

Join us again next month to hear about another exemplary team member.

Homelessness Isn't a Moral Failure. 🔴

A 2026 systematic review published in the International Journal for Equity in Health (available at the link in our bio) — analyzing 79 studies covering more than 51,000 people experiencing homelessness — found that the biggest barriers to healthcare access include social stigma, negative provider attitudes, bureaucracy, lack of service integration, and limited service availability. Unhoused members of the community often need vital social and human services programs but are unable to access them when they need them most or for as long as they require. This research affirms Threshold's goal to improve access and outreach for individuals. While much of this research originates outside of Berks County, the "below-the-line" poverty experience is near-universal across metro areas — including Reading.

Currently, our mental health supported living team works with clients to identify feasible transportation solutions and explain the often complicated world of government benefits (i.e., Medicaid, SSI, SNAP, etc.). Beyond our professional ranks, clubhouse members at Hope Springs have "Bus Days," where they ride local BARTA bus routes together so members unfamiliar with the system can remove transportation barriers. There's no reason an individual should go without help when perfectly competent resources and services exist. One day at a time, we'll keep bridging that gap.
