Another recent highlight was celebrating one of our ESL instructors, Val Harteg, on her graduation from the United Way of Berks County's Blueprint for Leadership program on June 8. We are incredibly proud of Val for this achievement and grateful for the leadership, dedication, and passion she brings to our students and community each day.
We also congratulate Kidary Miranda of Tec Centro Berks on this accomplishment. We are proud to celebrate both graduates and their dedication to making a positive impact in our community. Congratulations, Val and Kidary!

With much of our attention focused on our Annual Breakfast, we wanted to take a moment to highlight a few wonderful events from the past several weeks.

On May 28, we had the pleasure of participating in the Word of the Week (WOW) Assembly at Muhlenberg High School, where Muhlenberg Elementary students proudly showcased the many words they learned throughout the year. Their enthusiasm, confidence, and love of learning were truly inspiring!

The WOW program, led by Dr. Roula Elliker and Dr. Dcn. Jim Elliker, helps students expand their vocabulary and develop a lifelong appreciation for language. The Literacy Council is proud to co-sponsor this program and support an initiative that has such a meaningful impact on young learners.

A special thank you to all of the community partners who display the Word of the Week in their offices and restaurants, helping reinforce vocabulary throughout our community. We also extend our gratitude to WEEU for announcing the Word of the Week on its radio program and helping bring literacy to life beyond the classroom.

Together, we are building stronger readers, learners, and communities.

Thank you for attending our Turning Dreams into Reality Breakfast on Friday, June 5, 2026, where we celebrated the achievements of our GED graduates. Special thanks to Lauren Little for capturing the event with beautiful photos!
Because of our incredible sponsors, donors, and supporters, we not only hosted a successful event, but we also met our fundraising goal!
Your generosity helps make it possible for adults in our community to gain the literacy, language, and workforce skills needed to build stronger futures for themselves and their families. Last year alone, more than 600 adults were served through programs offered at no cost to our students.
As we grow and expand our ability to serve adult learners at our new location, your support helps turn dreams into reality every day.
Thank you for believing in our mission and investing in the success of adult learners throughout Berks County. Together, we are opening doors to education, employment, citizenship, and brighter futures.
