Save Hopewell

Save Hopewell sold to Shuman Hopewell was originally Second Reformed Church, a church plant out of First Reformed Church in 1898.

The beautiful Hopewell Mennonite Church building will be demolished unless funds can be raised to secure it's walls and prevent them from pushing out into collapse. One of the influential members of the church at that time was the president of the Reading Railroad, who commissioned many of the beautiful stained glass windows to made in Munich, Germany and imported. Most visitors to the building ty

pically gasp as they enter the sanctuary for the first time and view the incredible beauty of these windows. Because the building is condemned until repairs can be made, the members of Hopewell currently attend St James Parish of Reading City Church. If the money can be raised, Hopewell will become the 3rd parish of Reading City Church and will be filled with life for generations to come as RCC seeks to make a significant impact on the needs & improvement of Reading. Please come back to this page often to check on ways you can help and progress that is being made.

May we recognize God has a design so that everyone has the opportunity to win the race we call life. May we keep in mind Matthew 25:40 And the King (Lord) shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as you have done it undone of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me. May it be good that we choose to do to others and not evil. May we all come to a deeper understanding of God’s word and use it effectively in our lives. In Christ's name, amen and amen.

Only 12 members of the once-thriving congregation were left, their old church was falling apart, and they were running out of money.

In the fall of 1859 it became clear that the Second Reformed Church must fail, notwithstanding all the sacrifices made in its behalf, unless aid from the outside could be secured. With anxious hearts the people now as a last resort applied for aid from the synod. to know more about what happened read the History of the Reformed Church. Continue to pray for this church and it's future. God Bless
