All ticket revenue will be donated to the Parish Resource Center, supporting its work with the Lancaster Community Meal Program. Last October, English composer Cecilia McDowall was kind enough to send us a video introduction to "Music of the Stars," one of the works we will perform on Sunday, June 7 at 4:00 pm. The concert will be at Grace Lutheran Church, 517 North Queen Street, Lancaster.

McDowall’s work describes the power of music to console and uplift in challenging times. Texts include an excerpt from a Ukrainian folk song, Kenyan poet Brian Odongo, American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, and American writer James Weldon Johnson.

All ticket revenue from the concert will be donated to the Parish Resource Center, supporting its work with the Lancaster Community Meal Program. Donating ticket revenue allows us to partner with you to care for our neighbors in need.

Vox Philia comes to Lancaster for a concert on June 7, 4 pm, at Grace Lutheran Church, 517 N. Queen Street in Lancaster.

One of the major works we will perform is 'Sacred Place' by Alex Berko. The composer was inspired by the idea of "creating a sonic space that united the singers and audience in collective feelings of compassion and grief."

The fourth movement has a text that is resonating particularly strongly right now:

IV. Mi Shebeirach
May the source of strength
Who blessed the ones before us
Help us find the courage to make our lives a blessing
And let us say Amen

Bless those in need of healing with r'fuah sh'leimah
The renewal of body, the renewal of spirit
And let us say Amen

Berko writes: "There is a deep unifying power in collective listening...coming together to sit, listen, breathe, and understand... silently resonating with those around them.

Next week our singers come together to rehearse for our upcoming concert, held on June 7, 4 pm, at Grace Lutheran Church, 517 N. Queen Street in Lancaster.

The repertoire explores nature, and our relationship to it. The program ends with Alfred Fedak's gorgeous setting of the following text:
