Today, members of the Raynham Lions Club once again proved what community service is all about, coming together for another major improvement project at the historic King Philip Hall.
King Philip Hall, the longtime home of the club, is owned by the Town of Raynham. In return for using the building as club headquarters, the Lions Club proudly takes on full responsibility for maintaining the property and covering all operating expenses needed to keep the building open and accessible to the community.
One of the club’s biggest ongoing concerns has been the deteriorating handicap ramp and deck system. Time and weather had taken a serious toll on the structure, making repairs both urgent and necessary.
Last fall, thanks to a generous grant from The Home Depot in Taunton, club members began Phase One of the restoration by rebuilding the lower section of the handicap ramp.
Today marked Phase Two of the project, as Lions Club members rolled up their sleeves once again to tackle repairs to the upper section of the ramp. The existing substructure and decking had badly deteriorated over the years, but through teamwork, determination, and plenty of hard work, the ramp has now been transformed into a much safer and more secure entrance for everyone who uses the building.
The work is far from over. Phase Three will involve replacing all of the upper deck boards, and another volunteer work party will be scheduled in the coming weeks to complete that portion of the project.
Looking ahead, Phase Four will focus on replacing the stairs and railings — a major undertaking that the club currently does not have the funding to complete. Just as The Home Depot generously stepped forward to provide lumber and hardware for the decking project, the club hopes additional businesses, organizations, or individuals may be willing to help bring this important community improvement effort to completion.
Anyone interested in supporting the project can contact Steve Howe at 781-258-8307 or by email at [email protected], or reach out to any Lions Club member.
Special thanks go once again to The Home Depot of Taunton and to Lions Club members Mike Freitas, Dave Mattos, Cindy Connolly, Sherry Daley, Cara Kuzmiski, Ken Ohlson, Glenn Heywood, Jimmy Burns, Dee Augusto, and Steve Howe for their hard work and dedication today. Every volunteer brought unique skills, teamwork, and determination to the project, helping make another important phase of this restoration a success
