🌀 Hurricane Preparedness Includes Your Finances, Too!

As we continue through hurricane season, the Rayne Chamber of Commerce would like to share an important reminder from Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming, M.D.: preparing for a storm isn’t just about water, food, batteries, and supplies; it’s also important to have a financial disaster plan in place.

Here are a few steps Louisiana families can take now:

💵 Keep some cash available in case banks or ATMs are unavailable after a storm.
📄 Keep copies of important financial information, including insurance policies, bank information, tax documents, and pay stubs.
💧 Store important documents and identification in a waterproof container and keep secure digital copies.
🏠 Review your homeowners and flood insurance coverage before a storm threatens.
💰 Consider building an emergency savings fund for unexpected expenses.
📱 Take photos or video of the inside of your home and belongings to help with possible insurance claims.
🔐 Monitor your financial accounts and be alert for scams before and after severe weather.
🛠️ After a disaster, work only with licensed contractors and carefully research charities before donating.

Don’t wait until a storm is in the Gulf to prepare. Taking a few simple steps now can make recovery much easier for you and your family later.

Senior Helpers Lafayette Achieves Prestigious CHAP Age-Friendly Care at Home Certification

Senior Helpers, the nation's premier provider of in-home senior care services, is the first private duty in-home care provider in the United States to be Age-Friendly Care at Home certified by Community Health Accreditation Partners (CHAP). On July 28, locally owned Senior Helpers in Lafayette joined the list of Senior Helpers CHAP Age-Friendly Care at Home Certified locations.

"Senior Helpers' achievement as the pioneering Age-Friendly Care certified home care organization is truly remarkable. Their proactive approach in implementing numerous tools to enhance care for older adults, even before receiving the AFC certification, speaks volumes about their commitment to excellence," said Teresa Harbour, COO of CHAP. "Their use of LIFE Profile to reduce the risk of hospitalizations, their Senior Gems program for dementia care, and their Centers for Excellence for staff training and competency set them up for success, so adding the Age-Friendly Care at Home Certification was a logical next step."

Owner, Michele Veillon stated, “It is an honor to be the first franchise in the country to attain this certification and for our Senior Helpers franchise here in Lafayette to be the first and only homecare agency to achieve this certification in Louisiana. On Friday, the Rayne Chamber of Commerce was honored to join the City of Rayne in celebrating the ribbon cutting of the city’s first Historic District, a landmark achievement more than 142 years in the making.
