WHC had a great time hosting our third session of Seacoast Housing Conversations on September 9! This time, we focused on strategies for advancing housing and conservation goals through robust community engagement and thoughtful land use planning. With over 25 communities represented and nearly 50 participants, it's clear that programs like these are crucial for breaking down silos and bolstering regional efforts.

A special thank you to Portsmouth Public Library (NH), UNH Extension Community Development, and our presenters. Stay tuned for our next session in early winter!

Last week, WHC and UNH Extension held our second session of Seacoast Housing Conversations in Dover! The topic, Economic Development Tools for Housing, prompted regional engagement, curiosity, and expertise.

The evening brought together over 30 housing leaders and municipal officials, with peer-learning, knowledge sharing, and brainstorming to boot.

It's clear that regional solutions require connection and trust, and we're excited to continue building this network to unlock and advance housing solutions!

As WHC continues our housing-friendly policy series, we're focusing on the significant impact of parking reform and decreased parking minimums on housing development. Recent state legislation reducing parking minimums to one spot per residential unit is a pivotal step towards creating more affordable housing options.

By decreasing parking requirements, communities can optimize space for housing projects, addressing market demand more effectively. We commend the Seacoast communities that have already embraced this change in their zoning practices, and look forward to working together to continue this crucial work.

We are excited to highlight the significant impact of housing-friendly policies in our Greater Seacoast communities. Recent changes in state law and greater public engagement have prompted many towns to recognize and act on the urgent need for diverse housing options.

During this year's Town Meeting Day, we witnessed a remarkable commitment to advancing Accessory Dwelling Units , which can provide more attainable housing solutions and foster intergenerational community growth.

Collaboration among local policymakers and community members is essential to ensure sustainable housing practices. Let's continue this important dialogue!
