One of many artifacts!

This miniature handmade Quinault Whaling Canoe showcases all the necessities for a whaling trip. Floats, buckets, canvas shelters, and oars. It took multiple ships to take down a single whale to get meat, sinew, bone, and more! Come visit the museum to observe all the other artifacts and miniatures we have showcased!

❄️How Did 19th-Century Travelers Stay Warm? ❄️

Before heated seats, keeping warm on a frosty ride meant relying on pure 19th-century ingenuity!
Enter the carriage foot warmer—an essential accessory for open sleighs and coaches during cold winter journeys.
Soapstone Slabs: Heavy soapstone blocks were heated on a home stove, wrapped in flannel, and placed underfoot. Soapstone retained heat for hours!
Charcoal Heaters: Metal boxes held glowing coals or charcoal bricks, with small vents to maintain heat under heavy wool lap blankets.
