Are you ready for September 1st?

We are! (almost 🤣)

During our September trial run, the Ray City Community Library has one important goal: 5 visits per day.

Every visit helps show that our community wants, needs, and uses its library. Stop by to browse, use a computer, attend an event, or simply see what we’ve been working on.

We also have a full September calendar of events already posted, so there are plenty of reasons to visit!

The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, not only a talented musician, but also a true titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library has received multiple Library of Congress Literacy Awards and, in 2018, Dolly visited us to donate the program’s 100 millionth book to our collection. She even hosted story time. 🦋❤️

Did you know we are accepting donations?

Our most immediate needs are chairs and fans, but we would be so grateful for anything on this list that can help us build a welcoming community space.

Our needs may change over time, so this list will be updated as needed. If you would like to donate, please bring items during open hours or contact us to arrange a drop-off time!

Please arrange approval before delivering large furniture, appliances, shelving, outdoor equipment, or other over-sized items.

📚 SEPTEMBER AT THE RAY CITY COMMUNITY LIBRARY! 🦫

September is a BIG month for our little library! Throughout the month, we’ll be offering free programs, activities, Wi-Fi, meeting space, and plenty of reasons to stop by.

Our goal is to welcome at least 110 visits during September, and every visit helps us demonstrate that Ray City wants, needs, and uses its community library. ❤️

Here’s what’s happening:

🎨 HOMESCHOOL HANGOUT

Thursdays at 10 AM

Homeschool families are invited to come hang out at the library! Bring your current project or use some of our supplies to craft, play games, read, create, and socialize with other local homeschoolers.

There’s no formal lesson or agenda — just a welcoming place for homeschoolers and their families to spend time together.

🌱 COMMUNITY SEED SWAP

Saturday, September 5 at 11 AM

Calling all gardeners and growers!

Bring your extra seeds to the library and get ready to swap with your neighbors. We’ll have tables available for everyone to lay out their seeds, browse what others have brought, trade, and chat with other local growers.

Come a little early to set up so we’re ready to start swapping at 11 AM!

đź’Ľ CAREER READINESS WORKSHOP: RESUME WRITING

Friday, September 11 at 11 AM

Join us in the Museum Room for a practical, beginner-friendly resume workshop!

We’ll start with a 30-minute discussion covering:

The 6-second resume scan
A simple formula for writing stronger bullet points
What information deserves space on your resume
Quick ways to make your experience stand out

Then we’ll move into a hands-on Rapid Resume Rewrite. Bring your current resume — or simply a list of your jobs, skills, education, and experience — and start putting what you learned into practice.

Every participant will receive a Resume Cheat Sheet to take home.

A limited number of computers in our Computer Lab will also be reserved for participants who would like to rewrite and print their resume for FREE, with an opportunity to receive a second look and editing help.

đź’» Computer spots are limited and will be available first come, first served.

✏️ COMMUNITY POETRY COMPETITION

Submissions Due: September 18

Calling writers and poets of all ages!

Share your voice, creativity, imagination, and passion for words in our Community Poetry Competition.

Submitted poems will be displayed inside the library for approximately a week and a half, giving community members the opportunity to read the entries and vote for their favorites.

🏆 Winners will be announced September 30 and will receive special certificates!

Please visit the library for complete submission guidelines and competition details.

🦫📖 LITTLE BEAVER BOOK CLUB

Friday, September 25 at 11 AM

Calling all Little Beavers!

Our first Little Beaver Book Club selection will be The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton.

Every new Little Beaver Book Club member will receive:

A milestone tracker
A special bookmark
Their very first Little Beaver ribbon!

Each month, we’ll gather at the library to listen to a new story and help the Ray City Beaver build his dam — one reader at a time!

As our Little Beaver readers reach their meeting milestones, they’ll earn new ribbons to add to their bookmarks and celebrate their reading adventures.

🛜 AND DON’T FORGET...

The Ray City Community Library offers FREE Wi-Fi during public hours.

Need somewhere for your club, organization, homeschool group, study group, or community group to meet? Come see us about reserving one of our meeting rooms!

đź’§ IMPORTANT: Our 106-year-old building currently does not have air conditioning. Please dress comfortably and bring water, especially on warmer days.

📊 FOLLOW OUR SEPTEMBER CHALLENGE!

We’ll be sharing updates throughout the month as we work toward our goal of 110 library visits in September.

Every person who walks through our doors matters.

Come read. Come create. Come learn something. Come meet your neighbors. Come use the Wi-Fi. Come to an event. Come browse the shelves.

Most importantly — come use your library. ❤️📚
