Living Logos

Living Logos Living Logos is an itinerate international ministry that challenges individuals to begin memorizing portions of Biblical scripture.

Our presentations are word-for-word from scripture, engaging, and challenging.

This morning Jennifer presented the book of Ruth at Faith Fellowship in Pahrump, NV. What an excellent job she did!!! Thought some of you might be interested in seeing it. It is a powerful portion of scripture. Blessings to all.

I have intended to regularly post to this page about our travels, but obviously have not followed through.
We are currently in Grand Junction, CO preparing to leave for Cedar City, UT in the morning. We are making our way toward Lancaster, CA over the next four weeks or so with stops in cedar City, St. George, UT, Mesquite, NV, & Pahrump.
It has been a busy year with a few small adventures, but the joy of sharing God’s Word never wanes.
We soldier on!

Jennifer and I are again privileged to be hosted by Tyndale Publishing House on Oct. 5th for their staff chapel. This team has become a favorite stop for us. Tyndale is the publisher of the New Living Translation of scripture and, pictures here with us is Mark Taylor, former CEO, current chairman of the board, and youngest son of Kenneth Taylor who paraphrased The Living Bible. We are looking forward to seeing our friends again, as well as sharing ministry with several churches in northern Indiana and possibly Tennessee.

It is December 11th and we have been in southern California for a couple of weeks now. One more Sunday morning here at our So Cal 'home' church and then we head for Casper, WY for Christmas with two of our three boys.
We'll be back to So Cal by Dec. 29th for an appointment on Dec. 30 and stay until the end of January. We have ten days of ministry scheduled in the Sacramento area at the beginning of February, then we'll return to So Cal, pick up the RV and head east.
Merry Christmas, all!

This past Sunday we were given the privilege of presenting the book of Philippians with Discover Faith, a new church in south Denver planted about two years ago by Pastor Todd & Melissa Walker. Todd also asked us to also share a little about some of the practical and miraculous things we have learned and seen in our walk of faith. Frankly, we always consider it an honor when pastors open the door for us to share our lives with those they lead. It is both humbling and great fun to watch God (as my buddy Patrick in El Paso says) "show up...and show off"
Thank you, Todd & Melissa.

It has been a very interesting few months on the Living Logos road. Last October, while ministering in western South Dakota, I (Rod) had a collision with an internal infection that landed me on my back for a couple of weeks. Thankfully, Jenni did a sterling job of filling in at the last minute. I was back on my feet in fairly short order and we continued on with our engagements in Wyoming and Colorado. Then, as we were leaving Casper, WY heading for Laramie and on to Colorado, we were caught by an extremely high velocity, but momentary, gust of wind that in one second tore the 20' awning from the side of the RV and sent it flying two lanes over into the median. Our protective aluminum awning shroud remains on the RV tuck-taped in place to avoid flapping noises and paint removal! We are to have a new awning mounted on our 'rolling home' next week. It is surprising how effective an awning can be to keep the RV cool. They tend to heat up like a tin can whenever the sun comes out.

We also, just last week, had an episode with our RV braking system. The driver-side rear axle seal had failed and caused a few malfunctions that could easily have ended in a fire. However, God is gracious and orchestrated a number of things; driving time (if we had continued on to Sacramento, we would most definitely had a fire), and a timely repair by two highly energetic gentlemen at a ministry called Gleanings for the Hungry in Dinuba, CA. They saved us thousands of dollars on the repair and had it done in short order. Thanks Rod and Erwin!

As I was recovering from my ailment in October, Jenni and I talked about taking a short sabbatical in December. We were planning to spend Christmas '17 in Branson with our sons, Jordan, and Timothy. Jordan lives in Branson and Tim was going to fly down. Philip and our daughter-in-law, Meagan would be spending Christmas with her folks in western Wyoming. We were also invited to share the Christmas Story from scripture with The Hostetler Group, an Amish manufacturing business in Buffalo, which was planning a large Christmas banquet in Springfield ini early December. Jenni and I decided that since we had been 'on the road' non-stop for almost fifteen years, we would take a three or four week rest to do some praying, writing, and memorizing. Since we would be parked at an RV resort in Branson at which we have a membership, we decided that December would be a month 'off!' Our son, Jordan, was in the process of looking for a new place to live when he found a house for sale. He made and offer at the beginning of Dec. and closed on the 15th, which means that our relaxing, writing, and memorizing became painting, plumbing, fixing, and moving. :-) By the end of the month I was sore in placed I did not know I had places, but we had a great time together for the month.

We have made some new friends and ministry relationships over the past year, which is always a delight. For the most part, our travels tend to follow a two-year cycle...either starting in California and following Interstate 5 north. After a short visit with family and friends in British Columbia and Alberta we typically venture through MT, ID, WY, western SD, and Colorado. The following year takes us from California through AZ, NM, TX, OK, MO, IL, IN then back through IA, ND, SD, WY, and CO. We wrap up each year in either the panhandle of TX or in Las Vegas.

Jenni and I have been highly blessed by the fact that many, if not most, of the churches who host us have requested that we return, sometimes each time we are in the area. As a result, it is sometimes very easy to simply fill our schedule with ministry engagements with church fellowships at which we have previously ministered. We most certainly appreciate the fact that the message of Living Logos is considered by many pastors to be a vital reminder of the centrality of scripture, both to corporate congregations and to individual believers. But it also means that there are seasons when our schedule is almost 'pre-filled' with little opportunity to foster relationships with new churches. This year was a little different. Since the beginning of April last year we have met and ministered with nine new churches in New Mexico, Missouri, and southern California.

We recently arrived in the Sacramento area where we will be staying until the end of March, then it is on up through OR, WA, BC, MT, ID, SD, WY, and CO.

A few thoughts about obedience:

As I was quoting through the Sermon on the Mount tonight in preparation for our presentations tomorrow in La Bolt and Stockholm S.D., I was getting near the end of that tremendous sermon delivered by Christ and came across these words, “Not everyone who SOUNDS religious is really Godly. Oh, they might refer to me as Lord, but they still won’t enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they OBEY my Heavenly Father.”

The passage goes on to speak of those who have actually done miraculous things ‘in the name of Jesus (prophesies/demonic deliverances/other miracles) and will, on judgment day, be pleading their cases before Christ, each for his or her eternal destiny. Christ will respond to their pleadings by saying something akin to “Pardon me….do we know each other?” Scripture records it as “I NEVER knew you…go away. The things you did were unauthorized!”

As sobering as this passage is, the words that nailed me tonight were…”The decisive issue (deciding if you will or will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven) is whether you obey my Heavenly Father!” I couldn’t help but reflect back to a conversation Jennifer and I were having just a few minutes before when we were discussing some elements of our ministry and some of the disappointments we’ve experienced. Even as we were chatting about it, I felt God gently prompt me to hold my tongue. Unfortunately, I didn’t. I didn’t ramble on at length about the issue but I didn’t follow God’s ‘nudge’ either. Here’s what occurred to me; the truth is, we don’t obey God in degrees…or do a little better this time than we did last time. WE ARE TO OBEY NOW AND FULLY. To do anything else is simply disobedience. Even if we ‘do a little better than last time,’ and feel some measure of growth, we still haven’t obeyed God fully and need to do some repenting.

I don’t mean to discourage anyone who is struggling in this area, but this is the truth. We either obey, or we don’t. There is no ‘middle ground,’ no ‘grey area.’ We are obedient to His faithful voice, or we are not.

I need to watch how easily I often try to excuse myself in this issue. Why? Because I want to develop the habit of OBEYING my Heavenly Father. I don’t want a habit of earthly or carnal stubbornness to trump my promise of the abundant life God desires for His children. By the way, it is we who trump that abundance by our actions. If we walk in obedience to God, His abundance flows into and through our lives. It is when we choose to walk in disobedience, or even partial obedience, that we stop the flow. God doesn’t love us any less, but the divine promise seems clear; obedience is following God’s directions; anything less is disobedience.

Again, I find myself needing to apologize for not staying 'on task' regarding our ministry page. We have had a very busy spring and summer thus far, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down.

We are currently in Casper, WY for almost two months. A huge plus for us is that two of our three sons (and Meagan, our daughter-in-law) live here. Phil and Meagan live in Casper and Timothy is working at a members-only restaurant just outside of town at a 'boat club' located on a local lake. We always love to spend time with our family, so a two-month stretch is quite a treat. I even get to ride my motorcycle a little during our stay. :-)
Our travels, as is quite typical for our 'eastward' swing, have taken us through Northern and Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and finally to Casper. During our stay here we will make short forays to outlying towns and cities in Wyoming, Montana, and western South Dakota before moving down to Colorado. We hope to close out the year in Colorado, Kansas, and perhaps the panhandle of Texas before spending Christmas in Branson, MO.

Many ask us if after fourteen and a half years 'on the road' we want to settle down. Admittedly, we do have those urges from time to time, but the downside of such a decision is that both Jenni and I so enjoy doing what God has us doing now through the scripture presentations, we have a hard time grasping the thought of not being able to continue. So, until we hear from the Lord a change of orders, we will consider the last one we heard to be a 'standing order.' :-)

We are so privileged to now have hundreds of friends across the U.S., Canada, and a few other countries, a number of whom have become very dear to us, and the thought that we would no longer have the chance to regularly see them might keep us on the road for a long time!

God continues to open doors for His Word with new churches and those with whom we have already ministered, sometimes frequently. We are blessed, and eager to follow God into the adventure ahead.

Again, for those who have experienced a Living Logos presentation of scripture and challenge to start hiding God's Word deep within...if you haven't started, please do so, not for our benefit, but for yours. You'll never regret it. If you have started and kind of let it drop away...pick it up again! Let the Word of God enrich your heart and impact who you are becoming in Christ. For those who have embraced and are enjoying the fruit of having the Word within...well done! Let's keep on together. God bless you all.

We'll, folks, it has been another busy year for us 'on the road.' We have covered the west coast from California to British Columbia, over to Alberta, then south to MT, ID, WY, SD, CO, TX, NM, AZ, and now we are in the Las Vegas area for two Sundays. We will wrap up the year with presentations in UT and Christmas morning at Faith Assembly of God in Casper, WY where we will spend Christmas with our three boys and daughter-in-law. Merry Christmas to all; we so appreciate your prayers and encouragement. :-)

I always intend to make much more frequent posts here, but somehow manage to get distracted. Our spring and summer season has been quite busy as we tracked up the west coast through northern California, Oregon, Washington and into British Columbia then Alberta. We got to see many friends and renew acquaintances. The Word of God continues to make us marvel how it speaks so strongly to those who will listen. From time to time we come across passages of scripture that specifically encourage leaders to simply read the Word to those they lead, without editorial comment. We in no way are saying that it should eliminate or subjugate the teaching of pastors or leaders, but, by the same token, in many evangelical churches, there is little time given specifically to the reading of large portions of scripture. Teaching seems to be the main goal for instruction.

I have heard teachers who I highly regard admit that there are some portions of the Word of God that truly need little or no comment accompanying. One made the comment that he NEVER preaches the book of James...however, he reads it to his people at least once each year. His admission is that when he has tried to preach this book, it was extremely hard to not 'beat his sheep to a pulp!' (his words, not mine).

When a pastor invites us to share a book or portion of scripture, we are consistently blown away by the response. Often it is, "I have never heard anything like this before!" or "I don't think I can read scripture the same way any more," or "This makes scripture come alive!" In addition, once we have been hosted by a church, it is rare indeed to not receive an invitation to return when we are next in town...and many churches have asked us to return almost annually.
Some we have revisited up to ten times in thirteen years. This is not what we expected when we set out to launch Living Logos, but it has led to the fostering of many very good friendships and lasting impact.

One day I would very much like to return to England and Scotland. We both would also like to visit Ireland. I think we left a piece of our hearts in Scotland. As God supplies and the invitation arrives we continue to hope. God has given us this unique assignment to challenge His kids to get His Word hidden within, but He has also challenged us personally to continue to be a 'hider-of-the-Word.' My most recent portion is Romans 4-8 and now I'm looking for the next challenge, as is Jenni.

Pray for us as we do our best to follow where He wants us to be, and BE what He wants us to be.

Rod (& for Jenni)
