MEMORIAL DAY ACTIVITIES – HONORING OUR VETERANS
HIGHLAND PARK CEMETERY, RAVENNA – MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY 2026
Members of American Legion Post 332, VFW Post 5820, and any patriotic volunteers are invited to help place
flags on veterans’ graves at Highland Park Cemetery on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Please meet at the
north entrance of the cemetery.
On Monday, May 25, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., members will gather at the Ravenna City Auditorium to set up the
Avenue of Flags, weather permitting. Community support is welcome and appreciated.
The Color Guard, Rifle Squad, and Scouts will meet at the auditorium Monday, May 25, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. All
veterans are encouraged to participate in the ceremony. Rifle Squad members who have custody of rifles are
especially requested to attend. At 9:15 a.m., the group will board a bus at the auditorium to travel to the north
cemetery, where the day’s services will begin.
The flag at the Veterans Wall will be flown at half-sta until the conclusion of the ceremonies at Highland Park
Cemetery.
These events are a heartfelt tribute organized by American Legion Post 332 and VFW Post 5820. The community
is encouraged to come together in honoring the memory of those who served, as we stand united in gratitude
and remembrance.

It was an amazing time as we found out our local Voice of Democracy winner was selected as the state first place winner this past weekend at Department of Nebraska VFW annual Mid-Winter Conference where they present the Voice of Democracy awards. Maggie Huryta did an amazing job with her presentation of her speech on this year's subject of "What Patriotism Means to Me". Maggie's now goes on to the National VFW competition where she can win anywhere from $1000 - $35000 in scholarship money. We wish her the best as she moves forward in the competition.

Local student Maggie Huryta was the 1st Place winner of the Voice of Democracy (VOD) at the Post and District and now moves on to the Department. Pictures are from the District 11 Awards Banquet that happened on Sunday, 18 January in Ord. Maggie with District Commander Denise Behrendt and Post Commander Ken Yount, and Maggie giving her speech with Denise at the podium during the program. We wish her the best at the department level. The Department VOD awards banquet will be held on Friday 30 January at the Cornhusker Marriott in Lincoln.
