Alright!!!! … " . . . Now most governments schedule a "Persons to be Heard" segment, where you sign up to speak at the beginning or, worse, at the tail end.
Some governments across the state don't allow members of the public to speak at all.
Until now, allowing the public to speak was not mandatory under law. Now it is.
Under the new law, a person can speak to a government body at the start of the meeting, at the end, and most important, before a vote on every listed agenda item. . . ."

" . . . Robert followed the murkiness up Wolf Creek and found what he believed to be contamination from the Sand Plant in Ravenna. He believed that silt was washing into Wolf Creek when it rained . . .
"TCEQ cited N-Tex Sand & Gravel/Wolf Creek with the following violation: Failure to maintain structural storm water controls in accordance with Part III Section A(4)(d)(3). On June 12, 2019, a breach was located by TCEQ. N-Tex Sand and Gravel/Wolf Creek has been given until July 24th to remedy the problem. . . . "

Though I don't have an historic connection to Fannin County (been here only 25 years) I experienced being moved by this piece. I appreciate Gregory for giving me a glimpse of the Caney Creek/Mulberry life he knew --- a tight-knit community and beautiful landscape --- juxtaposed now with signs of its passing. The scenes of turkey buzzards, graffiti on the bridge, and the introduction of sand mines to the area didn't require narration.

Celebration and elegy for a Fannin County, Texas, landmark, Caney Creek bridge, built around 1908, including the beauty and human significance of its surroun...

" . . . Robert Lee told Bonham City Council that he feels a sand plant near Ravenna is contaminating Lake Bonham by causing more silt to wash down Wolf Creek during storm water runoff. Mr. Lee contends that the color of the lake has been altered and he has notified Texas Commission on Environment Quality (TCEQ).
'My question to city council, and everyone here, is what are we going to do about it?' Lee asked the crowd.
The City of Bonham is waiting on an analysis by TCEQ to determine a course of action. . . ."

The U.N.'s environment program is warning about the overuse of sand resources, saying a three-fold increase in demand over the last 20 years amid increasing population, urbanization and building work has contributed to beach erosion, flooding and drought.

". . . this will REALLY affect Bonham in a bad way, including all of the home owners/business owners in the area. Please contact the County Commissioners court or the county judge if you do not want this affecting you.

"I worked for a construction company who had an asphalt plant and the land value drastically decreased on all of the surrounding homes, not to mention the smell was HORRENDOUS!! The owner ended up having to buy those home-owners out!!

"Don’t let this affect you, let your voice be heard!"
