Ravenna qualified three teams to compete at the State Robotics tournament held on Friday, February 27, and Saturday, February 28 at Omaha North High School. Forty-eight teams from all class sizes of schools across the state of Nebraska won the opportunity to compete at this level. The other high schools that had teams represented at the event were the following: Brownell-Talbot, Omaha North, Gross Catholic, Elkhorn South, Skutt Catholic, Millard North, Cross County, Grand Island Senior High, NRAI, Westview High School, Valley, Centura, Elkhorn North, Buena Vista, O’Neill, Pierce, Concordia, and Wahoo.
The first day of the competition consisted of inspection, team interviews, and driver and programming skills. Team 5V (Rob Gentrup and Arnie Kyhn) ranked 40th in skills with a driver score of 38 and a programming score of 0, totaling 38 points. Team 5W (Kash Lutz, Carson Maulsby, and Weston Schirmer) ranked 34th in skills with a driver score of 27 and a programming score of 19, totaling 46 points. Team 5Y (Hayden Bock, Daymion Cacy, Bryce Rasmussen & Wyatt Wroblewski) drove a 53 and programmed a 21 for a total of 65, ranking 24th overall.
On day two of the state robotics tournament, each team competed in 8 qualifying matches for top rankings to go on to the final rounds of competition. Team 5V (Kyhn & Gentrup) finished 39th with a record of 3-5. Team 5W (Lutz, Maulsby & Schirmer) finished 24th with a record of 4-4. Team 5Y (Bock, Cacy, Rasmussen & Wroblewski) finished the preliminary matches ranked 13th overall with a record of 5-3.
All three of the Ravenna teams made it to the final rounds of the state robotics competition. 5Y chose a team from Pierce to be their alliance partner to finish up their robotics season at state. The first round of finals was tough against two alliances from Concordia and Millard North. They lost with a score of 31 to 63. Team 5W chose 5V to go into the finals. This alliance went against teams from NRAI and Wahoo. Ravenna’s alliance lost in this finals round witha score of 25 to 104. This year, Ravenna will not be sending a team to the World Robotics Competition in Texas; however, all four teams should be very proud of how well they individually designed, built, programmed, drove, and competed this year. We are very fortunate at Ravenna to have the support in which all of the student body has the opportunity to be involved in robotics. Proud of all the Ravenna Robotics accomplishments this competitive season!
Special thank you to Melissa Malmstrom for driving, helping with so much and taking pictures at state robotics this year! We appreciate your support!
