HERO'S RUCK IS RUN BY VETERANS, FOR VETERANS. No one understands the challenges of transitioning to civilian life—including PTSD—better than those who have walked in those boots. Hero's Ruck is one such organization.
Where human words sometimes fail, the silent, unconditional love of a rescue pet steps in. A companion animal doesn’t judge the scars, the flashbacks, or the heavy days; instead, they offer a steady heartbeat in the dark and a reason to wake up tomorrow. Through the simple act of caring for a dog or cat, a veteran finds their way back to a predictable routine, a renewed sense of purpose, and a bridge to the outside world
The HERO's RUCK Event: Participants join an organized ruck march through downtown Kent and the Kent State University campus, carrying weighted backpacks to simulate a military training exercise and show solidarity.
The funds raised from this event go directly toward the Pets for Vets program. This initiative covers 100% of adoption fees, allowing qualified veterans (with a DD-214) and first responders (with a badge or unit ID) to bring home a fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped companion animal for free.
