The program is a series of 10-‐13 group-‐coaching sessions designed to introduce the students to personal leadership concepts through discussion and experiential learning activities. 6-‐10 students participate in each group. The proprietary curriculum was adapted through FUSION Life & Leadership’s adult executive learning programs and equine-‐experiential learning. The topics covered include:
self-‐awareness, conflict resolution, personal empowerment, leadership qualities, teamwork, goal setting and achievement, stress management, and creative problem solving. Concepts learned include:
compassion, passion, positive thinking, self-‐mastery, judgment and acceptance, resilience, individuality and self-‐esteem. One of the most important lessons these groups discover is there own personal strengths and gifts. The participants are encouraged to envision the future that they want and are given tools to successfully navigate the path to those goals. Group service projects Each group plans and executes at least one service project for their school or community. This activity is designed to put goal-‐setting, planning and achievement concepts and tools to work—learning the concepts and tools through doing. Experiential Learning Components:
Team activities that employ kinetic learning are used in each session to demonstrate the concepts in a highly memorable fashion. This combination of group coaching sessions, and experiential learning is unique to the SURGE! program. Each component supports learning in a different mode to address multiple learning styles and promote optimal engagement.
