✍️ Calling All Middle School Students! 🇺🇸

Could your words earn you a scholarship?

Rushmore VFW Post 1273 is proud to sponsor the 2026-2027 Patriot's Pen Essay Competition!

📖 This year's theme:
"What a Veteran Taught Me About America"

Students in grades 6-8 are invited to write a 300-400 word essay for a chance to earn scholarships while honoring the sacrifices and service of America's veterans.

🏆 Scholarship Opportunities Include:
🇺🇸 $300 awarded to our Post 1273 First Place Winner
🥇 Additional cash awards at the District and State levels
⭐ The South Dakota State Champion advances to the VFW National Competition, where the 1st Place winner receives a $5,000 scholarship!

📅 Entry Deadline: October 31, 2026

This competition is a wonderful opportunity for students to improve their writing skills, reflect on the values of patriotism and service, and compete for scholarship awards that can help shape their future.

From VFW Bingo, Queen of Hearts, Poker, and Karaoke to our Boy Scout Troop 131 Spaghetti Fundraiser, Ride the Rush Breakfast, live music, family activities, and member meetings, there's something happening all month long.

Whether you're looking for a fun night out, a family-friendly afternoon, or a chance to support local veterans and community organizations, we'd love to see you at the Post.
