Rushmore Music Festival

Rushmore Music Festival The Festival attracts young musicians from around the nation through a selective, audition-based application process.

Rushmore Music Festival offers intensive solo and chamber music training for pre-collegiate and collegiate-age string and piano students in a rigorous, supportive environment, and presents a professional chamber music concert series. Founded in 2015 by Dr. Katie Smirnova and Brett Walfish, two individuals with a vision for enriching, empowering, and transforming communities through the arts, the R

ushmore Music Festival takes place each summer in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota. The organization brings together highly sought-after pedagogues and high-caliber performers for a 3-week solo & chamber music festival for students ages 12 through 18. Limited to 18 participants, it is intended for students at early advanced-advanced levels, studying violin, viola, cello, and piano. With a strong focus on individual technical mastery and artistic growth rooted in communication, the Festival fosters a challenging, immersive musical environment. On the weekends, the Festival's faculty come together to present the Faculty Concert Series, where exhilarating chamber music concerts fill the stages and community venues in Spearfish and Rapid City. As of Summer 2021, all admitted students will be awarded a FULL-TUITION FELLOWSHIP, which covers all Festival lessons/coachings/classes/accompanist rehearsals, residential accommodations, as well as admission to all faculty concerts. Students are responsible for a non-refundable application fee ($90) & Meal Plan fee ($495/3 weeks).

πŸŽ‰πŸ·πŸŽΆ What an unforgettable afternoon at β€œNapa in the Black Hills”!

Our annual spring fundraiser with friends from Paloma Vineyard was a glowing success, with a packed house of our Black Hills supporters coming together to champion Rushmore Music Festival student scholarships!!

Guests enjoyed a beautifully curated wine tasting led by Caston Richards, an exquisite dinner, and a heartfelt concertβ€”all made possible with generous support from Haggerty's Music.

An absolutely scrumptious meal was prepared by Chef Jeff Slathar and his stellar team, Alsulu and Dwayne. πŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸ³πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ³

The musical program featured multi-year RMF alumna violinist Evita Coleman performing alongside her faculty mentors, Dr. Katie Smirnova and Dr. Ismar Gomes, in a moving performance of the Schubert's String Trio in B-flat major, as well as selected Duos by BΓ©la BartΓ³k, and a solo performance from Dr. Gomes. The afternoon also included an inspiring keynote from RMF Artistic Director, Dr. Gomes. πŸŽ™οΈ

Huge thanks to our Executive Director Dr. Katie Smirnova for spearheading this event; to Caston and Heidi Richards for enchanting us with their wines; to Chef Slathar and team for the incredible meal; and to Orion and Stacey Potter for creating the classiest musical tableaux.

Most of all, thank you to our generous community. Your support makes the meaningful work of Rushmore Music Festival possible. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

All funds raised go directly to student scholarships. πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸŽ“ Thank you, thank you, thank you!🫡🏽

We had an amazing time last week in San Francisco! We attended the and Conference and did some outreach and fundraising performances in the area at , in cooperation with in Visitacion Valley. We had wonderful hosts and were able to connect with area students, and our community of friends in Viz Valley in several performances!

Our attendance at ASTA meant that we were able to connect with thousands of young students from around the country, as well as other teachers and organizations. We learned so much there and feel energized moving forward!
