🔨👷 HELP US PACK THE HOUSE & INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION!

The Black Hills Home Builders Association is proud to partner with the Rapid City Area Schools 8th Grade Career Fair, and we need YOUR help to showcase the incredible career opportunities available in the skilled trades!

📅 November 17–18, 2026

We're looking for businesses to set up booths, engage with students, and give them a firsthand look at the exciting careers waiting for them right here in the Black Hills!

From electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and HVAC professionals to builders, equipment operators, designers, and everything in between — WE WANT YOU THERE!

💥 Why does this matter?

For many of these 8th graders, this could be their very first introduction to a career in the trades. One conversation, one hands-on demonstration, or one inspiring interaction could change the direction of a student's future!

Our industry needs the next generation of skilled professionals, and that starts with showing students what's possible.

🏡🔨 BUILDING HOMES. BUILDING SKILLS. BUILDING THE FUTURE!

Today was an exciting day for the Black Hills Home Builders Association as we officially celebrated our partnership with Western Dakota Technical College and kicked off the 2026–2027 Student Home Build Project! 🎉

We had the opportunity to meet with students, faculty, and industry partners and celebrate with a ribbon cutting at the site of the Governor’s-style home that students will build throughout the school year.

This partnership has been years in the making, and we couldn’t be more excited to finally see it come to life!

For years, we’ve looked for ways to work alongside Western Dakota Tech to support its construction trades programs, strengthen hands-on learning opportunities, and help prepare the next generation of skilled tradespeople. Today, we’re proud to take that vision one step further by providing financial support, industry connections, and resources to help bring this student-built home to completion.

This project is about so much more than building a house. It’s about investing in our future workforce, connecting education with real-world experience, and showing students that there are incredible career opportunities waiting for them right here in the Black Hills.

As an association, workforce development is one of the most important investments we can make in the future of our industry. And what better way to do that than by supporting the students and educators who are building that future every single day?

A huge thank you to the faculty and leadership at Western Dakota Tech for their dedication to trades education and for welcoming BHHBA as a partner in this exciting project.

We can’t wait to watch these students turn their classroom knowledge into a beautiful home over the coming months!

We’re excited to recognize Malcolm Peters with The Remodeling Artist as our October BHHBA Member of the Month! 👏🏡

Malcolm’s path to the Black Hills has taken him from growing up in Oregon and Michigan to building his electrical career in North Dakota before ultimately returning to what he enjoys most: remodeling. He loves being involved in the entire process, taking an existing space and breathing new life into it while creating something with quality, character and craftsmanship that will last.

After moving to the Black Hills, Malcolm says being part of BHHBA helped accelerate the process of becoming connected to his new community. Through association events, networking opportunities and simply “rubbing shoulders” with others in the industry, he’s been able to build relationships with local contractors, tradespeople and businesses he may not have crossed paths with otherwise.

That’s exactly what BHHBA is all about — bringing together the people who build, remodel and support our local housing industry and creating opportunities for those relationships to grow.

Malcolm also believes there is always more to learn in the trades. His advice to someone starting out? Don’t be afraid to try, fail, learn and be humbled along the way. There’s always something you can improve on.

We’re grateful to have Malcolm and The Remodeling Artist as part of the BHHBA community and are excited to spotlight the craftsmanship, perspective and personality he brings to our membership. Congratulations, Malcolm! 🔨👏
