A local startup is stepping in to fix one of the biggest headaches in the Black Hills right now… finding reliable skilled workers fast, without the old-school stack of resumes and slow callbacks.

The platform is built specifically for construction hiring — electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, carpenters, welders, masons — the people actually putting buildings up across our region.

We’re talking about AI-powered matching that connects workers and employers based on skills and project needs… not just keywords on a resume.

Whether it actually replaces the old way of hiring or just speeds it up… it’s another sign that the construction world here in the Black Hills is starting to modernize fast.

Finally connecting East Anamosa Street to Elk Vale Road on this week's "What is THAT building?" Wednesday.

Rapid City is moving forward with a massive $73.7 million Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district for the East Anamosa Street corridor. The City Council's Legal and Finance Committee advanced resolutions for the new East Rapid City Transportation Improvement District to build critical arterial roads and utility networks.

Core Purpose: Constructing a portion of East Anamosa Street to connect it to Elk Vale Road and building connecting routes to local school parcels. The project includes reconstructing a portion of Valley Drive, adding water mains, and constructing a water reservoir.

A much needed project for Rapid City's eastern growth and infrastructure.

I've really enjoyed meeting Rapid City people with these videos and chatting about how they can help the community. When it's a client branching out to her own business...that's even cooler!

I helped Kelli Birdsall buy a home for her family back in 2012. Now she, along with her business partner Brooke Tedford, have opened Thrive Therapy Collective. They are in Autumn Hills Plaza – 5312 Sheridan Lake Road, Suite 107. You can visit their beautiful suite at their open house! IT’s this Thursday the 16th from 4pm to 7pm.

Kelly is a speech-language pathologist, so you get her for things like speech therapy for kids, articulation, language development, stuttering, voice therapy, swallowing disorders, and even rehabilitation after strokes or traumatic brain injuries. She works with everyone from young children all the way through adults.

Brooke brings another specialty to the table: executive function coaching. That's helping people with planning, organization, task initiation, staying focused, and other challenges that are often associated with ADHD. And again, that's available for both kids and adults.

I love seeing businesses like Thrive Therapy Collective open in Rapid City because they're bringing specialized services that make life a little easier for families in our community.

Right at 804 St. Joseph Street in the heart of downtown, Crystal Pines Healing is stepping into a new chapter. This isn’t just a shop—it’s being positioned as a spiritual sanctuary and community healing space, built around crystals, holistic tools, and guided wellness experiences.

launching a monthly event series called “An Evening With…” An intimate conversation covering topics like Sound healing, Meditation, breathwork, Energy work or intuitive practice, and mindfulness and spiritual education.

The whole idea is not retail-only… it’s experience-based healing inside a downtown storefront. Time to go and check it out!

Business Expansion 101 - Part TWO! (cause FB only allows 90 seconds... lol)

Why don't we have Hy-vee? When is Aldi gonna come here? And are we ever gonna get a CostCo?

These are the comments I get regularly whenever I post about new businesses coming to town.

And while we know they would do well here, each company has their own set of requirements to come into an area - population density, average income level, expendable cash, competition, etc etc. They ain't in this to make us feel good. They only gonna do it if it's profitable.

Even if all of those boxes get checked, we have a unique problem. Distance. Hundreds of miles from the nearest big cities in all directions...so a business would have to include extra funds for supply lines, travel, and more.

When everything comes together, we have a ribbon cutting!

Hopefully this gives you an idea of the mindset of businesses and companies considering growth and expansion.

Should you Buy a Home in Rapid City this summer?

Plenty of media out there talking about how the real estate market is tanking, but real estate is local. We are certainly seeing some softening of prices but nothing earth shattering.

With the slim chance of interest rates going down anytime soon, you need to be prepared and ready to buy at the current rates.

The opportunities are out there - whether or not it's right for you is up to many things. Let's chat about your goals. :)

Police, Fire, and Parks on this week's "What is THAT Building" Wednesday! Homestead Park in Rapid Valley.

The Homestead Street overlay district is being used as a funding engine for major public safety and community improvements on the east side of Rapid City.

On the public safety side, the fire station component alone has been referenced in the range of about 7 million dollars in earlier planning discussions, with integrated space for police support services to improve response times on the growing east side corridor.

Then you’ve got Homestead Park, which is part of the same funding strategy. Earlier planning documents have put park investment in the low millions range, designed to add green space, walking areas, and neighborhood recreation tied directly into the surrounding housing development.

All good stuff for the fastest growing corridor in Rapid City!

Wes and Tenise Chapman with Black Hills Tire have been running something amazing the past few years. It's all about giving back to the community and helping kids find and fuel their passion. We're talking about Camp Drive.

It’s a two-day, hands-on automotive experience built for kids ages 12 to 15. Not theory… real wrench time.

We’re talking stations where kids rotate through things like tires, brakes, alignments, and basic vehicle systems, learning directly from working technicians. On top of that, they get guest speakers from the industry, tool demos, and even team-based challenges that simulate a real shop environment.

Small camp size to make sure your kids isn't just watching.

I was too late with this video for this year - but plan on next week during the first weekend of June.
