Absolutely nothing, unless it's the penny war at Lakeland Elementary School!
Those kids fought a war, and the Little Free Food won!

If you missed it, you missed a really good night!
We haven't finished the tally yet, but a good time was had by all, including one community member who yelled "bingo" THREE times for a whopping total of $175 in winnings!
The food, the games, the company, and the whole night was a vibe we hope to experience again soon.

The Back to School Shoe events provide new shoes, socks, school supplies, and vision screenings free of charge to kids walking through grade 12!

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and will take place online. Must reside in one of the 5 counties Father Fred serves (Grand Traverse, Benzie, Kalkaska, Antrim, Leelanau), but can register for any event in the four counties where they are holding events.

EVENT DATES:
Benzie County: August 3, 2026
Kalkaska: August 5, 2026
Mancelona: August 7, 2026
Traverse City: August 11, 12, 13, and 14, 2026

This week, we were in the Food Rescue of Goodwill Northern Michigan warehouse, where we got (among other things) a whole case of tomatoes, peppers, and fancy chocolates.
Well, we knew what to do with all of that!
We delivered it to Elk Rapids Cherryland Middle School, straight to Julie Greene's class. The students harvested lettuce and herbs from their hydroponic garden (thanks to a grant from Antrim County MSU Extension) and then made homemade sauce and salads to create take-home dinners to feed their whole family, complete with dessert!
