LOTS of thank yous to go around this weekend for yet another fun BHDTC event. We know it was hectic with the heat, getting to all your sports, finding time to volunteer, and finding the fun throughout, and we appreciate everyone who showed up this weekend.

THANK YOU to Harmony Dog Sports to coming back to Rapid City and offering so many fun things for our dogs throughout the weekend. We appreciate you so much and love having you at our events. 🩷

THANK YOU to RyeDoodle Boarding & Training and K-9 Sport Complex for hosting the event, allowing us use of your field, and for planning such a fun in conjunction event that allowed people so many fun ways to play. 💜

THANK YOU to our trial chair Marie Darling for volunteering your time so that we could have this event! 💚

THANK YOU to all our volunteers who showed up and dedicated their time whether it was for 5 minutes, 5 hours, or all day(s). Throughout the heat, the chaos, and sometimes the stress, we appreciate you giving it your all. 🩵

Last but very not least, THANK YOU to our dogs — without them, we wouldn’t get to play these games and have fun with these friends. They choose to do these things we ask of them and how lucky are we that they do? It’s a gift to never take for granted. ❤️

ATTENTION BHDTC Fast Ball Fast CAT Trials!! One of our competitors had a wallet go missing on the grounds of the Fast CAT trial this morning. It is a leather tri or bi fold wallet. Please be on the lookout as you’re walking the grounds around the Fast CAT and potty areas. If found, please message us directly at this page so we can get in contact with the owner.

Wallets contain some of our most personal information so if you come across this item, please treat it with the utmost care so we can return it to the rightful place.

Our Fast CAT chairperson and Harmony Dog Sports put out the call for volunteers and you all SHOWED UP this morning to get everything set up, and we had a good number of volunteers helping throughout the day. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again — we CANNOT have these events without volunteers so THANK YOU all!

We will need the help again tomorrow so please plan to be there early again to help if possible. It makes a huge difference in the success of the event.

It will be warm again tomorrow so plan accordingly for you and your dogs.

Are you new to Fast CAT and wondering what all these letters mean? In honor of our trial this weekend, let us break it down for you on this week’s . 🙌🏼

🔠 THE NAME 🔠

What even is a Fast CAT?

No it’s not a feline, and yes the CAT is all capitalized for a reason. It’s Fast CAT not Fast Cat because the CAT stands for Coursing Ability Test. This sport is one of AKC’s lure coursing sports!

🐾 THE SPORT 🐾

It’s a timed 100-yard dash for dogs! Basically a furry track meet where they get to chase a lure and run their hearts out. They earn points and titles no matter their breed, speed, or size! Dogs all the way from Chihuahuas and Boston Terriers up to Irish Wolfhounds and Mastiffs can run Fast CAT, and everything in between!

🏆 TITLES 🏆

What do they all mean?

BCAT — 150 points: the first title your dog can earn
DCAT — 500 points: the second title your dog can earn
FCAT — 1,000 points: the third title your dog can earn
FCAT2, 3, 4, etc — after your earns their FCAT, for each additional 500 points, they earn another FCAT which will appear as FCAT2, FCAT3, FCAT4, and so on

How does my dog get them?

Direct from AKC’s website: Fast CAT scores are calculated with a formula. The formula involves multiplying the dog’s miles per hour (MPH) by the appropriate height-based handicap. The result of that calculation is the number of points that the dog receives for an individual Fast CAT run.
