"REMOVING UNNECESSARY AND COUNTERPRODUCTIVE RESTRICTIONS ON ACCESS TO FEDERAL LANDS"
Well, our local Grasslands office helped clear this up!
"The U.S. Department of Agriculture and Forest Service are reviewing the Executive Order, entitled "Removing Unnecessary and Counterproductive Restrictions on Access to Federal Lands" issued May 29, 2026, that may affect travel management on National Forest System lands. Any changes to public access, road management or recreational opportunities will be communicated through official Forest Service channels. At this time, there are no changes to existing road, trail or off-highway vehicle (OHV) designations.
Folks can feel comfortable knowing they are following appropriate travel guidance in continuing to use motor vehicle use maps as they are currently available at local district offices and Avenza. The new National Forests and Grasslands App also has options for downloading maps."
So, does this mean the Travel Manegment Plan from 2010 was overturned?
To simply answer that. No.
This does give land managers a leg to stand on when trying to prevent the closure of CURRENT trails. It will also help in how our CURRENT trail systems are managed.
So, our Forest's and Grasslands are still closed unless posted open. The Motor Vehicle Use Map is still the legal trail system that we have to follow.
