Building CLEAN is our specialty! 🧼💪 The SDSM&T Clean Snowmobile Team is a student design team that is a part of the Center for Advanced Multidisciplinary Projects (CAMP). This year, we are building a diesel powered snowmobile to compete in the annual SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge which takes place the first week of March each year in Houghton, Michigan. The premise for the competition is to devel
op an environmentally friendly snowmobile to be used by researchers in glacial regions where normal emissions from an internal combustion vehicle would skew test data. Additionally, the team works to push the boundary of performance and reliability from a diesel powered snowmobile. This year, we will be using the new Polaris titan chassis as the foundation of our platform to build from. Using off the shelf components as well as drive systems from industry leaders, the team builds a diesel driven vehicle that performs at the same level as the gasoline equivalent.
