From selling pickles at Sam’s Club to people and systems manager at Synchrony to owner of Black Hills Running Company, Mike Albin walked our Black Hills Leadership Development Luncheon through every stop on his journey, and where he’s headed next. His book recommendation, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss, fits him absolutely perfectly (and not just because he was a colorful pacer for a race in Italy with a balloon attached to him…)

At Black Hills Running Company, he meets people wherever they are on their own journey, whether they need a good pair of walking shoes, are training for their first marathon, or are seasoned runners. With 83 marathons across the globe under his belt, he’s just as gifted at storytelling as he is at running the shoe machine that his shop is! Thank you, Mike! 🏃‍♂️👟📚

Belated thanks to Justin Warner for being our first speaker of the 2026-2027 Black Hills Leadership Development season! In his presentation, "The Pirate's Life for Me," he drew on his experience working and owning restaurants, and the inspiration he found early in his restaurant career in the book, "Setting the Table: The Transforming Power of Hospitality in Business," by Danny Meyer.

He encouraged us all to unlock the magic of hospitality through a "see something, do something" lens. It's all about being good humans, even as and among pirates. Thank you, Justin!
