My fellow Lakota Crazy Horse made a prophecy that "in a time of 7 generations (and that time is now) we would see Lakota who know how to navigate walking in two worlds (our world and American society and bring the two together." Walking as a Lakota Minister of the Gospel of Grace is a journey of bridge building (in many ways), it's living at the intersection of enduring Faith and deep rooted cultural heritage. Its being a bridge. It means honoring Jesus, and loving our people through every season. Now bridges get walked on from both sides, bringing a constant, complex tension.
On one side, you carry the deep heartache of seeing many of our own Lakota people reject Jesus, often viewing Him through the lens of misinformation and historical trauma rather than as the Source of True life and Freedom, as a Man from a Tribal Culture Himself. On the other side, even after contributing original theological works to the broader Body of Christ, you still encounter non Natives who even subconsciously look at you through a patronizing lens, viewing you as someone from a "mission field" rather than a theological peer, a colleague, and leader. Facing skepticism from your own people while having your voice and contributions subtly minimized by outsiders can be a heavy. It takes thick skin, deep Grace, and an Unshakeable Foundation to stand on that bridge. But this calling isn't about seeking human approval or fitting into anyone else's box. It’s not about choosing between being Lakota and following Christ, because faith in Jesus shows us who we are. Who He made us to be. I love my people, and all people. I stand effortlessly strong in my heritage, I know who I am. And I remain dedicated to bringing the Gospel of Grace & Peace to All people. And we will see all Nations, Tribes, and Tongues worshipping together at the Throne of Jesus . Mitákuye Oyás'iŋ (All My Relations/We Are All Related)🙏🏽
