This non-profit organization was organized in 1962 by Extension Educators and volunteers who wanted to provide opportunities for youth develop skill in Family & Consumer Sciences.There are a variety of contests for youth to participate in. It has a board of directors made up of volunteers and 4H Staff that meet 3 times a year to prepare for the Show. This Show is made up of various contests for youth which provide:
1) opportunities for further development of life skills by all youth in the Family & Consumer Sciences field.
2) Give all youth another opportunity to present to the public the art and science of Homemaking. Contests include:
FCS Judging, Place Setting, Produce Judging & ID, Ingredient Measuring, Fashion R***e, Public Speaking, Home Living centerpieces, Family Life Photos, graphic design contest, FCS Skill-a-thon, lego building contest & Meat ID
The youth activities take place on Friday & Saturday of the 1st week after the 1st Monday in October and is located on the Central States Fair Grounds in Rapid City, SD. Prizes are awarded in each contest . An Educational Trip to the Denver Stock Show in January is also awarded in the public speaking area as well as an application process for particiants 15 and older with FCS Show experience
