COUP Council To retain Lakota culture, build our collective power and bring justice and healing to the heart of Oceti Sakowin territory.

We are led by Lakota women and we count coup on these systems 🪶 🏹 🐴 We are a brand new initiative currently run by volunteers. Our parent organization is Rapid City Community Conversations . Please come to one of our meetings and see how you can support our work! Our mission is to make Rapid City a safe, inclusive, and equitable place for everyone (regardless of race, class, ability, gender, sexual orientation or religion). We dream of a community where discrimination is not tolerated and carries consequences. We hope to join with other community organizations and businesses in proactively making our community safer and more welcoming for all. We are planning a training of advocates and hope to support the documentation and challenge of discriminatory behaviors and practices.

“For ten years, Standing Rock’s concerns about this pipeline have not changed, and for ten years we have fought to protect our water, our Treaty rights, and our people,” Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Chairman Steve Sitting Bear said in a statement. “The Army Corps has now chosen to move forward without addressing those concerns. Until this pipeline is shut down, we will continue to defend what generations before us protected for our children.”
