We’ve been so lucky to work with this organization as a coalition and hope that the community and beyond can learn about their incredible work and help fund it.

Many large grants are invite only, maybe you know someone? Or maybe, you’re willing to support their work in many other ways.

Oaye Luta Okolakiciye (OLO) is a Lakota-led organization in Rapid City. The name means “Moving Forward in a Sacred Way.” They call every person they serve a relative, and they heal through ceremony, elders, and culture.

We are beyond impressed with the work this group is doing and have asked permission to share it. So often people want to show love in an abstract way “oh, I care about these people or this group” and OLO gives a tangible way to take that care and make a real impact.

Some incredible work they’re doing:
77 relatives entered the 12-week healing program. 75% are sober today.
100+ Native youth reconnect with their culture each year.
255 relatives reached in prison and detox in 2025.

You’re not alone if you care about this place and feel like you’re carrying your piece of it by yourself.

Most of us learned to keep our heads down and work our own project, so that’s what feels normal.

And let’s be honest, we all want the same things: clean water, healthy land, and something worth handing to our grandkids.

I wish we would normalize:

1. Asking who else is working on the thing you care about
2. Listening to every point of view, even the incomplete ones
3. Measuring a solution by what it does seven generations out

If that’s your vibe, welcome to this side of the Black Hills.

+ Submit your comment at regulations.gov (search “Roadless Area Conservation,” docket FS-2025-0001) before the October 6 deadline
+ Join the conversation the very next night to talk through what comes next
