We’re excited to be participating for the first time in South Dakota Gives weekly contest:
Great Places, New Faces

This year we gained a wonderful new supporter, and some new friends: the Black Hills Association of REALTORS®!
A community group that saw a need and found a fun way to help! It doesn’t always take a big event or a complicated fundraiser to make a difference.

They chose to support our mission by holding a raffle that raised $11,500 to provide temporary housing for families with children experiencing homelessness!

We’re thankful to haveBlack Hills Association of Realtorsf REALTORS® walking alongside us to provide a safe place for families when they need it most!

💙 Exciting news for Foundations for Families of the Black Hills!

Foundations is now the fiscal agent for South Dakota’s only Youth Action Board (YAB)!

The YAB brings together young people ages 15–24, including young parents, who are passionate about improving how our communities address youth homelessness and housing instability.

These young leaders bring valuable perspectives and lived experiences to the table. Their work helps identify gaps in services, improve resources, and ensure that youth voices are heard in decisions affecting their lives.

Our mission is built on the belief that every child deserves a home and every family deserves support. Supporting the YAB is an important part of that work.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to provide the organizational support these young leaders need to focus on creating meaningful change for youth experiencing homelessness across South Dakota.

📅 The next full YAB meeting will be held October 22 in conjunction with the Rapid City Youth Task Force.

We’re excited to see what these young people accomplish!

🎃 Foundations for Families of the Black Hills and Showered With Hope will be at the Cars and Coffee BH – Cars and Candy ’26 event handing out candy! 👻

Hot Cocoa and Apple C***r will be available for a freewill donation to keep everyone cozy. ☕ 🍎

A little warmth can go a long way toward helping a family find stability.

❤️ All proceeds will help local families with children who are experiencing homelessness or facing immediate eviction.

🍬🎃 HELP US FILL OUR CANDY BUCKETS! 🎃🍬

Foundations for Families of the Black Hills and Showered With Hope will be at the Cars and Coffee BH Cars and Candy Trunk or Treat again this year. We want to help Cars and Coffee BH give children another safe and fun Halloween event!

Last year more than 2000 kids attended! 🍭

📍 Candy donations can be dropped off at the locations below before October 23rd so we can get it to Cars and Coffee BH to do their magic.

The Shower With Hope project, is a 2007 26', bumper pull camper, that will be turned into a mobile shower.

Thursday we attended South Dakota Community Foundation’s 2nd Annual Western South Dakota Nonprofit Conference!

It’s humbling to sit among leaders from over 70 non-profit organizations in one room talking about governance, leadership, and relationships.

I looked around more than once and saw people who have taught me, encouraged me, answered my questions, and helped me grow in this work.

This past week was pretty special!
I got to sit among people I respect, have my thinking broadened and challenged, learn new strategies and leave a little better than when I walked in. ❤️

Wednesday brought the Annual Coordinated Entry meeting and time to learn about system improvements and some exciting opportunities coming up.

Being able to ask questions, share ideas, support and connect with other organizations is always energizing.

The drive home provided plenty of time to process all of the information. 🚘 🤔 ❤️

It’s been a busy week with lots of miles. Tuesday meant driving to Pierre for the quarterly South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium meeting.

I love being in rooms with people doing the heart work across South Dakota—learning what’s happening in other communities, having conversations with people I respect, and making connections that help us do our work better.

As a bonus, I got to have dinner with a friend I first met back in 2016 in a totally unrelated field of work. I love that even though our worlds have taken us in different directions, our passion for serving people brings us back together. ❤️

It was a great day!
