Further Explanation Regarding Yesterday’s Cancellation
We’d like to take a moment to further explain the decision to cancel yesterday’s Music in the Park event.
When groups such as our sound technician and concessions workers are traveling from out of town, we must make a weather-related decision well in advance. In this case, we were asked to notify the band by 1:45 PM. At that time, weather forecasts showed storms heading directly toward Random Lake. Though the storms eventually missed us and the evening turned out beautiful, unfortunately, once the decision was made and communicated, it couldn’t be reversed.
It’s also important to understand the financial considerations involved. While the concert is free for attendees, the band must still be paid — whether they perform one song or an entire set. This particular band did not have a dedicated sponsor, meaning the cost would have been covered by community donations and collections. Given the forecast and lack of a financial cushion, our committee had to make a difficult, but responsible, decision.
We understand that cancellations are disappointing, especially when the weather clears up. Please know that these decisions are never made lightly, and always with the best interests of our performers, workers, and community in mind. We appreciate your understanding and continued support of Music in the Park.
