If you missed the meeting last night, we wanted to make sure our club members & followers are aware of an important issue that could impact our upcoming snowmobile seasons.
The state is currently considering a proposal to extend the deer bowhunting season through January 31st in the Farmland Zones. While this may seem like a small change, it could significantly affect our ability to access and maintain trails.
Many landowners do not allow trail work or access during hunting seasons. If bowhunting is extended through January, it could:
❄️Limit or delay preseason trail maintenance
❄️Prevent access to certain properties
❄️Potentially lead to some trails closing altogether
This proposal is being reviewed through Wisconsin’s Citizen Deer Advisory Councils (CDAC), and public input is strongly encouraged.
How You Can Help
🎤Attend in person (April 13, 6–9 PM): Portage: Wayne Bartels Middle School (Little Theater)
OR
📲Submit feedback online (April 13–15):
Visit: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/about/wcc/meetings
If you choose to respond, please consider commenting on Question #5, noting that extending the bow season through January could negatively impact snowmobiling and trail access in our area.
Additional Input Opportunity
The Wisconsin DNR is also accepting broader public feedback on deer management through April 12. This input helps guide local decisions on season structure and regulations.
Your participation truly makes a difference. Even a quick online response helps ensure snowmobilers are represented in this process.
Thanks for taking the time to support our trails and club.
