Jodi Levy Yissachar was more than an Aunt to me.
When you want to describe someone as "close" you call them "family", but she was more than that.
Jodi was my interpreter for everything American, or Jewish American.
Growing up in a traditional Yemenite community in Israel, I was astonished by some of the differences between our traditions, and Jodi was always there to patiently explain them to me.
Jodi had an amazing way of showing you the way without pulling or pushing, but by offering her guiding hand and her entire heart.
So much that I now feel belong.
And I welcome others who want to feel they belong.
Much thanks to Jodi, we have been Israeli Dancing for the past 3 years. Her fellow dancers thought it would be fitting to name our sessions after Jodi, and I love that.
In her honor, we will be meeting this week for a special session to share our memories of Jodi and dance in her memory.
We are looking forward to seeing you there.
