May we never forget the attacks on this country that happened 23 years ago.
We must never forget the people who perished, the heroes who served, and the sacrifices that were made 23 years ago on September 11, 2001. This week, we honor all the individuals affected by that fateful day including Randolph residents Steven H. Russin, Francis J. Skidmore Jr., David G. Carlone and Jason K. Jacobs who tragically lost their lives. You will never be forgotten, and you will forever be in our hearts. “No day shall erase you from the memory of time.” – Virgil
Today, every school is hosting commemorations or age-appropriate conversations about 9/11. Randolph Middle School 8th grade student Evelyn Hendrickson wanted to use her artistic talent to honor all of those impacted by this tragedy. For her piece, she chose to create a badge in remembrance of the brave first responders as well as flowers to represent the lives of all that were lost as a reminder that their memories continue to live on. “When I started to work on this, I wanted to create a badge that is given to first responders for their bravery on 9/11. Around the badge, I wanted to incorporate flowers as a reminder that while many lives were lost, the beautiful memories and legacy of those that lost their lives will last forever. Flowers represent life and I wanted to take something so tragic and turn it into something that would allow us to remember because they never should be forgotten,” Evelyn said. “I am thankful to everyone who fought that day to keep people safe. Our Randolph police officers and firefighters also make our community feel safe, and having the police station right across the street from our school helps me to come to school feeling safer. While many unkind things happen in our world, there are a lot of great people who will always seek to do good. I am thankful for all who serve as it inspires hope that there will always be people who want to help make our world a better place.”
