🛑 SNAP Benefits Halt Nationwide Nov. 1 — Government Shutdown Impact Grows 🇺🇸

Due to the ongoing government shutdown, SNAP (food stamp) benefits will not be funded in any state starting November 1 unless Congress restores funding. This affects over 42 million Americans, including:

• 🪖 20,000+ active-duty military families
• 🎖️ 1.1 million veterans
• 🛡️ 213,000 National Guard and Reserve members

These families face immediate food insecurity — especially those with children, fixed incomes, or stationed in high-cost areas.

💡 If you or someone you know is affected, here’s where to find help:

🍽️ Food Assistance

• 🏛️ Feeding America: Find your local food bank https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank
• 📍FoodPantries.org: Search community pantries by ZIP code https://www.foodpantries.org/
• 📱 Dial 211 in nearly every state to speak with a specialist who can connect you to nearby food programs

💵 Financial Relief

• 🧾 MyFEDBenefits Assistance Map: Locate national and local support for federal workers https://myfedbenefitshelp.com/shutdown-assistance-map/
• 🏦 Credit unions like Navy Federal Credit Union and USAA are offering no-interest loans to furloughed employees
• 🏠 Many landlords and utility companies are offering grace periods — call and ask!

📲 Stay Informed

• 🆘 Benefits.gov: Check updates on SNAP, WIC, and Medicaid https://www.benefits.gov/
• 💬 Follow your local United Way chapter for emergency aid and community support
• 🌐 www.NRD.gov :The National Resource Directory connects service members, veterans, and families to vetted support programs for housing, employment, health care, and food assistance

💙 This is a critical moment. Please share this post to help families across the country — especially our military and veterans — find the support they need.

Hey, , check out this helpful resource for navigating the government shutdown. ⬇️

***Edit, Friday October 17: We've had to pause our applications as we've passed 50,000 families requesting support, we need to process the current demand and hope to build the resources to open applications again soon. Please check the latest posts on our page for updates***

When the government shuts down, families keep going.

Military families are navigating growing uncertainty, from questions about future pay & allowances to the strain of daily life without clear answers.

That’s why MFAN is stepping up to help.

Starting today, military families can visit militarymeals.org to sign up for a free grocery box and Commissary gift card, shipped directly to their home. Each box from Umoja Health is packed with care to feed a family of four for a week.

💙 Active-duty, Guard, and Reserve members can verify their affiliation through SheerID at militarymeals.org. Once verified, follow the prompts on screen or check your email (and spam folder) for your registration form.

We’re working hard to reach as many families as possible, so please submit only one request per household and share this link with anyone in your network who may need support.

At your table, we stand with you.

We’re honored to partner with Warriors Heart, a truly transformative organization dedicated to healing our nation's protectors - active military, veterans, and first responders.

Their team recently joined us at the Air Force Wounded Warrior (AFW2) event, where we connected with case managers, transition teams, and other mission-driven organizations. Events like these remind us how powerful collaboration can be when we’re united in service of those who’ve sacrificed so much.

We’re especially looking forward to our upcoming site visit to Warriors Heart’s Bandera, TX location in the South Central region. It’s a chance to witness their incredible work firsthand and deepen our partnership.

Warriors Heart provides specialized care for warriors facing addiction, PTSD, and co-occurring conditions. Their programs include detox, residential treatment, outpatient care, trauma therapy, K9 support, and sober living—all in a community built by warriors, for warriors.

Together, we’re building strength through healing. 💙
