Message from White Eagle, Hopi:

“This moment humanity is going through can now be seen as a portal and as a hole.

The decision to fall into the hole or go through the portal is up to you.

If you repent of the problem and consume the news 24 hours a day, with little energy, nervous all the time, with pessimism, you will fall into the hole. But if you take this opportunity to look at yourself, rethink life and death, take care of yourself and others, you will cross the portal.

Take care of your homes, take care of your body. Connect with your spiritual House.

When you are taking care of yourselves, you are taking care of everything else. Do not lose the spiritual dimension of this crisis, have the eagle aspect, that from above, and see the whole; see more broadly.

There is a social demand in this crisis, but there is also a spiritual demand. The two go hand in hand. Without the social dimension, we fall into fanaticism. But without the spiritual dimension, we fall into pessimism and lack of meaning.

You were prepared to go through this crisis. Take your toolbox and use all the tools available to you.

Learn about resistance of the indigenous and African peoples: we have always been and continue to be exterminated. But we still haven't stopped singing, dancing, lighting a fire and having fun. Don't feel guilty about being happy during this difficult time.
You do not help at all being sad and without energy. You help if good things emanate from the Universe now. It is through joy that one resists. Also, when the storm passes, each of you will be very important in the reconstruction of this new world.

You need to be well and strong. And, for that, there is no other way than to maintain a beautiful, happy and bright vibration. This has nothing to do with alienation.

This is a resistance strategy. In shamanism, there is a rite of passage called the quest for vision. You spend a few days alone in the forest, without water, without food, without protection. When you cross this portal, you get a new vision of the world, because you have faced your fears, your difficulties ...

This is what is asked of you:

Allow yourself to take advantage of this time to perform your vision seeking rituals. What world do you want to build for you? For now, this is what you can do: serenity in the storm. Calm down, pray every day. Establish a routine to meet the sacred every day.
Good things emanate; what you emanate now is the most important thing. And sing, dance, resist through art, joy, faith and love. "

I asked him "Is the Chicano movement still alive?" He responded, "Sorry to say, the Chicano movement is not alive". I disagree. For those in the Taos area. Raise your fist if you call yourself Chicano, Chicana, Chican@, Chicanx, Mestizo, or other relevant term. (I know, I know, there is not one term that describes all of us. I'm using Chican@ with the full understanding that this term does not work for all of us. I'm sorry.) Ok, keep your fist up if you think the Chican@ movement is alive. Those with your fist still up, you're invited to our Casa Taos Retreat Center in Llano Quemado for a meal and circle dialogue about the Chicano movement. What does it mean to be a Chicano@ these days? What kind of healing needs to take place within ourselves and our communities? Have you always identified as Chican@? What is your vision of the future? What is our responsibility to make it so? How and when will we unify with Asian, Native, Arabic, LGBTQ, Black and other groups that have been historical targets of oppression in this country? Answers to these and your additional questions will be shared at the dinner/dialogue. Please message me or respond to this post if you're interested in joining us. Casa Taos Update:
We feel so fortunate to bask in the warm memories created by the groups that visited Casa Taos this year. Our Casa Taos Familia continues to grow! It’s been about 12 years since we created a space for those who want to connect or reconnect with self, others, the earth, and spirit. This seems to have worked very well for the hundreds of people who have visited. But honestly, I think we may have benefited from this experience more than our guests! Although we are geographically isolated by choice, we feel very connected to the world in so many ways.

We’re now busy preparing the house for our off-season winter months. The humming birds are still active and our newly hatched chicks are almost ready to join the flock. The 20 hens continue to lay many eggs which we trade for produce at the Saturday Taos Farmer’s Market.

Chaco is still with us and is enjoying the last chapter of his life in his kingdom with us and his animal family that includes Missy, Kitty, and Kefi. Chaco still prefers to sleep under the stars and with Missy’s help he continues to do his job, which is to protect us all.

Thankfully, Betty and I are still healthy with our combined age of 146 years! We're eagerly looking forward to our 2026 Casa Taos season and are beginning to make plans for it. I continue to take on an occasional outside facilitation and/or training gig, and Betty works with a local grass-roots group that provides support for migrant residents and is also a member of a small diverse group of elder activists who call themselves “The Sisterhood". Overall, life is very interesting and meaningful for us right now. We give thanks every day. Hope you can visit before too long.
