We hold various camps, programs, events throughout the year that foster care and compassion for all living creatures! The Education Department at Helen Woodward Animal Center serves children of all ages by providing a variety of unique learning opportunities which support the bond between humans and animals by nurturing knowledge, compassion and respect toward all living things. Programs provide a

variety of hands-on animal interactions for children of all ages from bunnies, horses and dogs, to snakes, birds and bugs.

Searching for the BEST San Diego summer camp for kids who love animals? 🐾 Summer Critter Camp at Helen Woodward Animal Center is a hands-on animal summer camp in San Diego designed for Preschool through 8th-grade campers. Running June 1 – August 21, 2026, this popular San Diego kids camp gives children the opportunity to connect with animals through daily animal encounters, educational activities, games, crafts, and interactive learning experiences.

Campers will meet birds, reptiles, small mammals, large mammals, and invertebrates while exploring exciting weekly themes like Amazing Animal Athletes and Bioscience and Beyond.

Older campers can also participate in Critter Careers, a unique middle school summer camp program focused on animal careers, leadership skills, and behind-the-scenes experiences with animal care professionals.
