Recently, questions have been raised about the Golden State Club’s status and our ability to hold events. I want to share the facts directly with you so there is no confusion.
Golden State was formed and applied to become a licensed local club. Earlier this year, we were granted a provisional license by the AKC, which requires us to hold our first mentored conformation event before receiving full licensure. This event is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2025. Once it is successfully completed, we will be fully licensed and eligible to apply for additional specialty conformation events, as well as performance and companion event licenses.
Per AKC rules, local clubs must receive authorization from the Parent Club to hold conformation events. Following the Parent Club’s published process, our Secretary and Event Co-Chair, Hap Sutliff, submitted this request to the BTCA President, with me copied in my role as Secretary to avoid any conflict of interest. The BTCA Board discussed and approved the request in its June 2025 meeting, and the vote passed unanimously.
While the BTCA bylaws allow clubs to apply for Affiliate Club status, our Board agreed it is best to wait until we are fully licensed before making that application.
Our club has worked hard to meet AKC requirements, and we look forward to celebrating our first mentored event in October—a milestone for all of us. Thank you for your continued support as we grow and serve the Biewer Terrier community.
