Barbara Sinatra Center

Barbara Sinatra Center In 1986 my husband, Frank Sinatra, and I opened the non-profit Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at Eisenhower.

We pledged that no child would ever be turned away regardless of a family’s inability to pay. The nonprofit Barbara Sinatra Children's Center (BSCC) is dedicated to ensuring every child’s right to a normal, healthy and secure childhood. The organization provides individual, group and family therapy and special programs that address issues associated with children suffering the affects of child abu

se and neglect, and who are at risk to be abused. An effective voice for children, highly respected with international name recognition, the out-patient Center stands as a symbol of Barbara and Frank Sinatra’s unwavering commitment to children in peril. Approximately 86% of children counseled are from families below the national poverty line of $16,400 annual income for a family of four. The Children’s Center is appropriately aggressive in fundraising the budget balance, for which a small percentage is derived from third party payer sources (self-pay, private insurance and government reimbursement). The Center shares knowledge about child abuse prevention, protection, education and counseling gained throughout 21 years via publications, lectures and highly visited web site, www.sinatracenter.org. Referrals for counseling come from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to the Office of the District of Riverside County, CA, all area school districts, Child Protective Services, CA Victims of Crime Program, law enforcement, self-referrals, web site, Yellow Pages, physicians, social workers, relatives, the Betty Ford Center and other agencies whose mission is directed at the care of children in need. The Barbara Sinatra Children's Center was founded in 1986 by Barbara and Frank Sinatra in southern California’s Coachella Valley to meet the community’s need for a permanent facility that would respond to the destructive forces of child sexual abuse. As the demand for services grows due to economic and social challenges and population growth, there is an accompanying increase in the need for services for victims of child abuse. The management, staff, volunteers and board of directors of the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center work relentlessly to ensure the on-going quality of therapy services and that every child who comes for help receives the finest most effective counseling. The outpatient state-of-the-art facility is located on the campus of Eisenhower Medical Center in the Palm Springs area of California and is a federally registered 501.c.3 nonprofit organization.

? 90% of child abuse incidents are committed by someone in a trusting relationship with the child.

This is one of the most important facts in child safety, and knowing it can change how we talk to children about safe and unsafe situations. The Barbara Sinatra Children's Center's resources at fightchildabuse.org help children, parents, and educators understand the warning signs and what to do.

Because awareness is the first step toward prevention.

"School’s out, routines are changing, and summer is officially in session. ☀️

With more unstructured time, camps, vacations, sleepovers, and time spent online, it’s important for adults to stay connected and pay attention to the children around them. Sometimes, changes in behavior can be subtle.

Be mindful of signs like:
• Sudden mood changes or withdrawal
• Increased anxiety or fearfulness
• Avoiding certain people or places
• Changes in sleep, appetite, or confidence

A trusted adult paying attention can make all the difference. This summer, let’s continue creating safe spaces where children feel seen, heard, and supported. 💙"

June is National PTSD Awareness Month.

PTSD doesn't only affect adults. Children and teens who experience abuse can carry deep trauma — nightmares, emotional outbursts, withdrawal, difficulty concentrating. These aren't behavior problems. They're signs that a child needs support.

At the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center, we provide counseling and trauma-informed care to children and families, regardless of ability to pay. Child Advocacy Centers across the country offer similar services.

Abuse isn’t easy to talk about. But staying silent doesn’t make it go away.

When we avoid the conversation, we leave children and teens without the tools they need to recognize harm, speak up, and seek help.

Awareness isn’t about discomfort—it’s about protection.

By normalizing these conversations, we create safer environments, stronger support systems, and more opportunities for prevention.

The work doesn’t end here. It continues every time we choose to speak, listen, and educate.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Child Abuse Prevention Month campaign,  whether by sharing your story, nominating someone making a difference, or helping spread awareness.

We were deeply moved by the stories shared throughout this campaign and inspired by the advocates, survivors, caregivers, and community members working every day to protect and support children.

While this campaign comes to a close, the work continues. Prevention starts with awareness, conversation, education, and community support.

As routines shift from school days to summer break, it’s a good time to check in on safety.

More free time, new environments, and less structure can mean more independence—but also more risk.

A few simple ways to stay mindful this summer:
• Keep communication open—know who your child is spending time with
• Set clear expectations around check-ins and boundaries
• Talk through online safety as screen time increases
• Trust your instincts—and encourage them to trust theirs

Small conversations now can make a big difference later.

The impact is real—and it’s growing every day.

Since 1986:
• 23,000 children treated
• 500 million views of animated prevention videos
• 5,800 therapy sessions each year
• 15,000 communities reached through school-based education

Behind every number is a child, a family, and a moment that could change everything.

Prevention, education, and support aren’t optional—they’re essential.
