Today we get to introduce four future architects to you.
For the third year running, Preservation Mirage has helped fund scholarships for graduating architecture students at College of the Desert. This year, we joined forces for the first time with the AIA California Desert Chapter to support their 2nd Annual COD AIA Architecture Scholarship — a program established in honor of the late Florence A. Hagstrom, Hon. AIA.
Four scholarships were awarded this week. Three carry Preservation Mirage's support, made possible in large part by Sally and Jon Kovler's designated gift toward educational scholarships, and by every member and donor who keeps this program alive.
Rebecca Villa is headed to Cal Poly Pomona. Her family's housing instability shaped how she thinks about design — as advocacy, asking who a space is really built for.
Israel Mojica is headed to NewSchool of Architecture & Design in San Diego. He approaches design as a tool for community connection, and is especially energized by sustainability.
Yudith Villegas Camarena is also headed to NewSchool. Her path to architecture started with the Earth itself, and her ambition is to learn the craft well enough to work in harmony with it.
Sebastian Ventura is headed to NewSchool too, on a scholarship funded by Hoyt Construction. Congratulations, Sebastian!
Thank you to AIA California Desert Chapter, Prest Vuksic Greenwood Architects, KHA Architects, and Hoyt Construction for co-funding these futures — and once again to Sally and Jon Kovler and every donor whose generosity made our share of this possible. Buildings are only half the story. These four are the other half.
