🌿 Happy World Environment Day 🌿

Every drop begins with the earth.

As aromatherapists, herbalists, and essential oil enthusiasts, our connection to nature runs deep. The plants, trees, flowers, and ecosystems that provide these precious botanicals are not limitless resources, they are living gifts that depend on our stewardship.

Today, we honor the importance of conservation, sustainable cultivation, ethical sourcing, and biodiversity protection. When we choose sustainably produced essential oils and support responsible growing practices, we help preserve these valuable plant species and the communities that cultivate them for generations to come.

True wellness extends beyond ourselves, it includes the health of our planet. May we continue to nurture a relationship with nature that is rooted in respect, reciprocity, and sustainability.

🌎 Together, let's protect the ecosystems that make holistic healing possible.

Airmid Institute recommends "Fragrant Signatures: Manual for Creating Natural Perfumes", a comprehensive, step-by-step guide for anyone drawn to the art of natural perfume creation. 🌹

Developed from years of teaching experience, this manual leads readers through the full creative process, from building a palette of natural fragrant materials to composing accords and crafting finished perfumes. It also addresses safety, ecology, and the sustainability of threatened aromatic plant species, values close to our own hearts at Airmid. 💚

Its author, Slobodanka Poštić, is a Croatia-based aromatherapy and natural perfumery educator with a deep knowledge of natural fragrant materials and the art of natural perfume creation, and we are proud to count her among Airmid's Global Ambassadors, representing Croatia.

Committed to the protection of threatened natural aromatics, Slobodanka brings both expertise and environmental responsibility to everything she teaches and writes.

A reminder that this Tuesday, 28 April at 10 am PT, Fionah Njeri, Airmid Ambassador of Kenya, will present Resins, Aromatics, and Indigenous Knowledge: Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Kenya and East Africa in Global Trade.

Over the course of an hour, Fionah will situate the medicinal and aromatic plants of Kenya and East Africa, 'Boswellia' and 'Commiphora' resins among them, within their Acacia–Commiphora dryland ecosystems, the cultural and linguistic frameworks that name them, and the global supply chains that move them.

She will bring forward the realities those chains too often flatten: women harvesters' labor and safety, community livelihoods, gendered patterns of harvest, and the Indigenous knowledge systems that have stewarded these plants for generations. She will also examine the relevance of these species to aromatherapy, perfumery, cosmetics, and traditional herbal practice.

A Kenyan herbalist, linguist, and community-based researcher, Fionah works at the intersection of medicinal plants, language, and traditional ecological knowledge, collaborating with small-scale farmers, women's groups, and grassroots communities to document plant knowledge and bridge Indigenous and scientific perspectives.

This webinar is free for all to attend live; a recording will be available to Airmid members. Register at the link below, and join us live with the same link!

At Airmid Institute, we can:

help to preserve Indigenous plant traditions.
teach about ethical sourcing, and
protect threatened medicinal and aromatic plant species.

But if children grow up on screens instead of outside, without ever touching and smelling a wild plant, exploring the pollinators that depend on them, knowing the name of a single tree in their local habitat, or understanding how these plants were used by their ancestors, how do ecological knowledge, tradition, and responsibility ever become truly valued?

Plant awareness disparity and nature deficit-disorder start as a lack of knowledge; but at their core, it is a loss of relationship.

This Earth Day, April 22nd, at 10 am PT join Frauke Galia and I to explore what we can do about this! 💚🌍

Join me in welcoming Airmid’s Ambassador of Argentina, Nayla Holgado 🇦🇷 AND wishing her a Happy Birthday! 🎈✨

Nayla Holgado integrates psychosocial theory, psychoaromatherapy, and family constellations to support processes of emotional integration and integrative mental health. As founder and director of Cuyen Escuela de Aromaterapia Evolutiva in Argentina, she designs and facilitates transformative learning spaces for personal and professional development, fostering a deep connection between inner processes, aromatic plant wisdom, and therapeutic practice, rooted in a profound respect for nature.

With an international career spanning education, clinical settings, and holistic training, Nayla serves as a faculty member in programs across Latin America and Europe, and has participated in international aromatherapy congresses. She is a member of the Asociación de Psicólogos Sociales Clínicos de Argentina (APSCA). Her work bridges science, intuition, and systemic approaches, offering a sensitive yet grounded perspective on healing processes in connection with the natural world. She lives and works in Buenos Aires, where she continues expanding a growing network of psychoaromatherapists.

Nayla envisions supporting Airmid through community-centered education, and ambassador-centered healing circles that weave together medicinal and aromatic plants, integrative health, and meaningful connection.

She will also connect with local producers in her country, and global colleagues, fostering ethical, culturally rooted aromatherapy while creating spaces for shared learning, exchange, and collective care.

Welcome, Nayla! We look forward to growing our mission with you by our side!

And we wish you a magnificent birthday, and a radiant journey around the sun! ☀️💐

A question for you... Can you name the plants growing outside your front door right now?

Many adults and children can't. This is not because they don't care, but because screens have filled the hours that used to be spent outside.

In the USA alone, by the time a child turns eight, they will have spent more than 5,000 hours in front of a screen. In that same eight years, the average adult will have spent more than 15,000 hours on screens.

At Airmid Institute, our work is to preserve the plants and plant knowledge that Indigenous communities have held and protected for generations.

But how much of that work will matter if Generation Alpha doesn't know about plants enough to see, value and protect them?

On Earth Day, April 22nd, Frauke Galia and I are hosting a free one-hour conversation about what it takes to get young children, back into relationship with the natural world.

Those who register, will leave with practical tools, a free activity guide, and a clearer sense of what you can do to get back to Nature and off the screens.

Join me in welcoming Airmid’s Ambassador of Chile, Claudia Codriansky! 🇨🇱

Claudia is a clinical and holistic aromatherapist, educator, and founder of Aromavioleta, an international online school dedicated to a conscious and sustainable practice of aromatherapy. Her work is deeply rooted in the landscapes of Chile, where her relationship with plants began as both a scientific inquiry and a lived, sensory experience.

Over the years, she has been devoted to weaving together modern research with ancestral plant wisdom, holding both as essential ways of understanding the complexity of aromatic plants and their therapeutic potential. Through her teaching, she has accompanied a global community of students, encouraging a more attentive, ethical, and reciprocal relationship with the plant world, integrating both the science and subtlety of aromatic plants.

She is especially committed to the study and protection of native aromatic species across Latin America, recognizing their ecological, cultural, and medicinal value.

As an Airmid Ambassador for Chile, she seeks to contribute to a more conscious field, one where education, conservation, and respect for biodiversity become a shared responsibility and a path toward regeneration.

We are delighted and honored to welcome you to Airmid, Claudia!

Join Airmid Institute and Fionah Njeri, Airmid Ambassador of Kenya, April 28th at 10 am PT for her webinar titled: Resins, Aromatics, and Indigenous Knowledge: Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Kenya and East Africa in Global Trade. 💚

Fionah will explore Kenyan and East African medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) through the lens of conservation status, habitat pressures, and cultural relationships with plants. Drawing from a cluster of resin-producing ‘Boswellia’ and ‘Commiphora’ species alongside other key aromatic and medicinal plants, the presentation will situate these species within Acacia–Commiphora dryland ecosystems and broader socio-ecological systems.

She will also examine their relevance within aromatherapy, perfumery, cosmetics, and traditional herbal practices, while engaging with themes of extraction ecology, uneven research attention, and the role of Indigenous knowledge systems. Particular attention will be given to ethical considerations, including community livelihoods, gendered labor, and safety within harvesting landscapes.

✨Fionah Njeri is a Kenyan herbalist, linguist, and community-based researcher working at the intersection of medicinal plants, language, and traditional ecological knowledge. Her work focuses on East African aromatic systems, including resins, essential oils, and plant-based remedies, with an emphasis on conservation, agroecology, and sustainable use of wild-managed resources.

She collaborates with small-scale farmers, women’s groups, and grassroots communities to document plant knowledge, support ethical value addition, and bridge Indigenous and scientific perspectives through both practice and research.

✨This webinar is free to attend live, and a recording will be available to Airmid members. Please register for the webinar using the link below; and use the same link to join us live.

It was truly a pleasure to be a speaker at the Second Annual Florida Vanilla Symposium. My presentation focused on the sustainability of 'Vanilla planifolia', and it was truly inspiring to be part of a gathering that brought together such knowledgeable researchers, farmers, and others working across the vanilla industry. The symposium was proactive, inclusive, and forward-thinking, exactly what is needed as we consider the future of vanilla. 🙏

The venue was beautiful, the vanilla-inspired farm-to-table lunch by Blossom and Brie was wonderful, and the entire day was filled with meaningful conversations and knowledge sharing. More than anything, it was the people who made the experience so special - passionate, thoughtful, and collaborative.

I am so impressed by Stephanie Hogan Webb's vision, leadership, and dedication to building a thriving vanilla community. I had the opportunity to visit her vanilla farm and learn more about her exceptional work. Vanilla is undoubtedly in very good hands with Stephanie behind the wheel!

Airmid Institute and I are proud to support this work and we look forward to continued collaboration with Stephanie Webb and the American Vanilla Association! 💚

I extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to and participated in World Wildlife Day 2026 “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage, and Livelihood”.

This gathering was truly special. Airmid Association Members, Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA) Canadian Alliance Of Aromatherapy and National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy came together under one roof to share the remarkable work they are doing on behalf of medicinal and aromatic plants and the communities who depend on them. It was inspiring to witness such a collaborative and forward-thinking spirit, one grounded in the shared understanding that without these plants, our profession would not exist.

Throughout the event we shared knowledge, stories, research, and practical examples that highlighted both the beauty and urgency of conserving these extraordinary medicinal and aromatic plant species.

We were honored to hear from Métis herbalist, educator and author LoriAnn Bird, whose work and book Revered Roots remind us of the deep cultural and ecological relationships people have with plants around the world.

The day was filled with heartfelt moments including music, stunning photographs, educational insights, thoughtful discussion, stories and giveaways. Each contribution reinforced our collective commitment to protecting medicinal and aromatic plants. It left many feeling inspired, hopeful, and galvanized for the endless work ahead.

A special thank you to the Airmid Ambassadors, Airmid members, and the entire Airmid community whose support, participation, and contributions helped make this gathering possible.

Many Ambassadors joined us live, while others who could not attend were very much with us in spirit. Your voices, images, and dedication to medicinal and aromatic plant conservation continue to strengthen our global network of stewardship. Thank you.

We also appreciate the collaboration of colleagues and organizations working to advance sustainability within aromatherapy education and professional practice, including IFPA (International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists), whose engagement in sustainability and education contributes to the responsible stewardship of medicinal and aromatic plants.

As an International Clinical Aromatherapy Network ICAN Fellow, it is a privilege to contribute to the ongoing dialogue supporting medicinal and aromatic plant sustainability within clinical aromatherapy and beyond.

Events like this remind us how powerful collaboration can be when we come together with shared purpose.

This gathering marks an important milestone. Airmid Institute is deeply honored to collaborate with such dedicated organizations, associations, professionals, ambassadors, and plant advocates.

Together we are helping build a future where the sustainability of medicinal and aromatic plants is recognized not only as an environmental responsibility, but as a commitment to “health, heritage, and livelihoods” worldwide.

When we care for the plants, the plants care for us. 💚

Thank you!
